This. All children should have learned by then really.

They don't say whether his brother could swim. If he could, then that makes even less sense.

Why should he know how to swim? Other articles about this say he didn't like water and some people just don't learn.

What makes less sense? That the boy made sure his younger brother was saved first or that a 10 year old boy might have been able to out swim a flood able to wash away a car? Don't take away from his sacrifice.

@Rob-Ot

In articles it does say the mother was trapped too.

I think from this line we can assume the mother died too, its so tragic. I feel bad for the Father and his 10 year old son.

Chris hauled Blake to dry land and the rescuers went back to try to get Jordan and his mother, but the car was swept away.

"The rope snapped and the car just flipped. The others were just gone, just disappeared," Mr McErlean said.

I do really feel the kid was a hero. But everybody is forgetting the man who jumped in the water with just a rope around his waste to try and rescue a complete stranger. Then another civilian jumped in to help the first good samaritan. These men are heroes even more so then the boy.

The boy knew his brother for life and cared deeply for him. As a 13 year old it would have taken alot of strength and maturity to sacrafice himself for his brother. But what about this man who didn't know the people at all and jumped into action risking his own life for complete strangers.

I'd like to say I'd give up my life for my younger sister or that I would jump into rushing water to save complete strangers but I know I'd definatly be hesitant.

I feel its unfair that all the media ignores the rescuer and always praises the victim. The rescuer wasn't a police officer or fire fighter he was just an ordinary man to my knowledge and it would take alot of heroism to go out and save that kid!
