Not impressed personally.

And who did Marc Webb have to screw to get this directing gig? The only feature he has under his belt is [500] Days of Summer, a film that started out brilliantly and slowly descended to the point where the audience wanted to punch every character straight in the face.

I would ask why we have Gwen Stacy instead of MJ (who Emma could play to a T), but considering that Marvel's EIC hates MJ I get the feeling he's involved.

This new series also reeks of Sony cynically trying to cash in. Heck, they were the reason that 3 ended up sucking so bad

Maybe because Gwen Stacy was actually Peter Parker's high school sweetheart, not Mary-Jane?

I still have no idea why they're rebooting the franchise just 10 years after it started. Raimi's first two movies were excellent renditions of the comic. Yeah, the third one sucked, I get that but the franchise can move forward beyond that instead of just starting over (though starting with Gwen Stacy instead of Mary Jane IS pretty awesome).

I think they're going with a more Ultimate universe-centric approach this time around to tie it in with all the other Marvel movies. Spider-Man 3 was just so bad that I feel the franchise would never be able to recover with the same cast and crew. I think starting over is a great move especially with a younger cast and *fingers crossed* a hotter Mary Jane.

i still don't get why they are rereleasing a series that saw it's last movie just 3 yrs ago.it's not like the spiderman films were made in the 60s. i hope it bombS. toby maguire FTW!

Okay seriously Spider-Man 3 wasn't as bad as most of you make it sound.

I personally thought it was amazing but even when I put my objective face on, I can't say it's a bad movie.

It wasn't as awesome as the two first entries but it was still good.

But that doesn't really explain Gwen Stacy, who was marginalized in the Ultimate universe. And Iron Man DEFINITELY wasn't anything like the Ultimate universe.

Anyway, I'm not 100% against this, I just don't really see the point. It comes off as an attempt to just milk the franchise. There are plenty of directions they could take the current franchise that would make it interesting again.
