I think Emma was picked more for chemistry reasons than visual accuracy. My friends joke around about the studio not wanting somebody that would be "too" hot just in case they can't find a bombshell Mary Jane.

Haha, I think Peter Parker and Spider-Man nailed down the super angsty teenager bit before the whole Emo culture ever developed. I mean it's kind of hard being a 15 year old crime fighter that still needs to get straight As, get bullied at school constantly, and take care of your widowed aunt. But yeah I guess you could call Peter emo especially with this hair.
