Forums - Microsoft - MS: Windows Phone 7 is our handheld

Eurogamer

Microsoft views the Windows Phone 7 as its very own handheld games console, according to the platform holder's mobile gaming chief.

"This is our mobile platform for games," Kevin Unangst told Kotaku at the CES show held in Las Vegas over the weekend.

"The same people who make the Halo game, the same development folks, work on this, this is our mobile console," he explained.

Unangst pointed out that the device had sold 1.5 million units since it launched in November last year and now boasted 5500 apps on its marketplace from 30 different developers. 60 of them are Xbox Live enabled games.

He added that Microsoft was working hard to encourage Epic to develop for the platform, though no agreement has yet been made.

Microsoft announced a handful of new titles for the phone at its CES presentation last week, including Fable II: Coin Golf, Game Room, Full House Poker, Pac-Man, Pro Evolution Soccer and Pocket God.

I have been wanting to get a new phone and am undecided between a win 7 phone or android. The live intigration really intrigues me.

Unfortunately, touch screen doesn't make for the best handheld gaming experience.

Anyway, MS is already huge in the portable gaming scene. Most laptops run Windows! Soon we'll have tablets running Windows as well.

Now all MS needs to do is start making games for Windows.

This^. I like how games for windows live pc games add gamerscore and log you into  live so I can still see/talk to my friends

This is how it works:

PSP2: 0 sales

3DS: 0 sales

WP7: 1.5M sales

Gap to both: 1.5M sales.

Well folks, it looks like Microsoft has taken a commanding lead in the latest generation of handhelds. I don't see how either Sony or Nintendo could compete with Microsofts 5500 titles! It seems that its likely that both Sony and Nintendo are about to be totally whupped by this upstart from Redmond. Who would have thought the two reining handheld titans would get blindsided like this by a newcomer?

Tease.

Neat. So if I play the World of Warcraft or any PC game on my laptop then am I engaging in hand-held gaming?

MS stop talking like APPLE

WTF!

"boasted 5500 apps on its marketplace from 30 different developers"

Thats an average of 183 apps each, either this is complete bollocks or MS themselves are churning out apps just to fill out the store.
