funny thread...at least we now know who are turning a blind eye on reality and refusing to accept that these hacks are harmfull to the industry and is the root of all PIRACY

if SONY goes down

Uncharted, God of War, Grand Turismo, Heavy Rain, Kill Zone, Resistance, Little Big Planet, Heavy RAin, RAchet and Clanck, and every SONY 1st party games go down and goes bye bye forever as I dont see SONY going the way of SEGA. They'd most likely just close shop.

If this happens I really hope all those who support this shit dies a very painfull death.

Nonsense.

The 360, Wii and DS have had rife piracy soon after each console launched and Microsoft and Nintendo software sales are quite healthy, both for first and third parties. Sony are not d00med in any shape or form, as long as good quality titles are released people will buy them. The problems that Sony have had with the PSP are down more to having crap games released for it rather than piracy issues.

I'm just curious, what would your response be if his post was simply:

funny thread...at least we now know who are turning a blind eye on reality and refusing to accept that these hacks are harmfull to the industry and is the root of all PIRACY

I absolutely agree that this won't be the death of Sony and the people who made the hacks can scream they don't support piracy until they're blue in the face but it's undeniable that piracy is a direct result of these hacks.

The thing is, they're not denying that piracy is a result, in their presentation, fail0verflow listed piracy as a side effect of the homebrew scene in all platforms, they don't support it, but they're not blind.

Now, i don't think the hacks are simply harmful to the industry, i think that depends on the use of this hacks, just like alcohol (if used well it has benefits, if used wrong it can cause chaos)... I used console hacks before, and it gave me the opportunity to play imports that never came here, and backup my discs so they lasted longer... With the PSP, it did wonders to me being able to dump my UMDs in flash memory, more battery life, less noise and better load times are a great given (god i hate UMDs)... And with the PS3 i expect my Linux back and if they can do a better video player and better web browser, then great... Of course i know that while i was doing this, others were using those hacks to play games illegally, but in the end every system gets hacked and the decision to do piracy is in no one but ourselves...

IF failOverflow knew that pircay was a side effect of what they were doing then they are wrong point blank. comparing alchol to pirating isnt a good comparison. because the more people that pirate the more damaging it is to sony, but if a lot of people drink its not as bad because they still have a choice of moderation and they didnt steal their product. Sure this wont kill sony but its still sad that developers that work hard get their games stolen and might just have to deal with it. Sorry i hate thieves lol.

It is a good comparison because i'm comparing using hacks for piracy with people consuming alcohol without moderation, and using hacks for homebrew/backups of your own originals/enhanced experience/etc. to consuming alcohol moderately...

In your take, you compare bad alcohol use with piracy and good alcohol use with -nothing- so i guess you're saying console hack = piracy, which is not true, i used hacks on a lot of systems, hell, even my smartphone is flashed with a CFW, but i don't use those hacks to download illegal copies of games, i use them to enhance my experience with the system... I also hate thieves, but not all hackers are thieves...

No he isn't. Far from it. Dear god, might as well ban the internet because it allows piracy, oh wait it didn't as there was piracy before then, it just gave it another medium to do so. Seriously you people need to grow up and smell the roses that just because you can do things that you weren't able to do before hand doesn't mean that it should be stopped because everyone who uses it isn't going to use it to make candy for the good little boys and girls. If you can't stand the fact there is two sides to every coin you might as well disconnect your internet, put yourself into a bubble, and "protect" yourself from the truth that even if smells nice, it has thorns.

What? If what you do opens the doorway to something illegal why do it plain and simple. LOL grow up? im not the one sitting in a dimly lit room hacking peoples consoles and then asking the console maufacturers for a job a week later. Also your analogy at the end wasnt really required.

doesnt  really matter because what the hackers are doing here is opening a gateway to theivary and they know it.

The point is courts themselves have ruled such activity legit but not matter what the will always be people who will use something to further more darker ends, piracy exploded when the internet took off they knew it was a possible side effect but do you see companies taking ISPs to court in the same fashion as this? No, why? Because the internet itself is not the sole cause of piracy it's just a medium pirates decide to employ to further their own ends, you can't blame the medium which is why many cases have fallen apart, that's the point both of them are trying to put through, it's not as black and white as people think.

I find it highly amusing that some misguided people (including Sony themselves) are seriously thinking that Geohot was genuinely asking all 3 platform holders for a job. It was obviously a tongue-in-cheek comment. Are people really that dim..? :o/

I understand all that but without the internet piracy would be an afterthought. I just feel that if what you do can lead to people losing alot of money why do it and if you do you really dont care. but aye some people dont wanna pay for stuff.

No it wouldn't as piracy has always existed. There is still a blackmarket of physical media. All starting back with Tape cassettes and VHS. Its was so easy to record a TV show onto a blank VHS, copy a VHS tape to another, copy music from the radio, copy music from cassette to cassette.

Piracy, theft, its human nature.

Mind you there was Betamax, and Sony won a case that while they provided the machine and the media that could enable piracy, they weren't responsible for that because there was an use that was ruled legitimate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Corp._of_America_v._Universal_City_Studios,_Inc.

Things sure have changed.
