Forums - Sales - Report on Wii Explosion

Okay so I know what you are gonna think... Why the Heck did you get up at 7:30 to go to retail stores just to watch people buys Wii... and to that I would have no response, except I am home on Christmas break and I have nothing to do... plus I thought a few of you here might wanna hear about it.... Also If anyone else did something similiar post it here so we do not have 11 threads or something for this.

Okay I went to best buy, we have a brand new one they just opened up 5 minutes from my house. There is a target right next door. When I drove past Target I saw droves(at least 200) of people waiting in line to get the Wii(both stores opened at 8). The area I live in is very upscale, this shopping center is about 2 minutes from the neihborhood where Shaq and Tiger Woods live. The parking lot was filled with Escalades, BMW's, Mercedes, and so on, I knew I was going to see a shopping spree and a half. I then parked and walked into the Best Buy line, which to my suprise was only about 30 people, after I was there for 30 seconds A worker walked to remind everyone that if they did not have tickets(they were handed out a 6) they would not get a Wii. I was talking to people in line and I guess earlier the workers told them that the shipment was 65 for this best buy(brand new) but the other one in closer to Orlando recieved upwards of 150(which were ticketed also).

The group was obviosly very relieved because each of them KNEW they were finally getting their Wii, as we moved in everyone was calm and proced to the check out area where they had set up their "Wii Center". They had a circle with remotes, nunchucks, Wii Play, SMG, MP 8, M & S, and few other games. Most of the people were buying Wii Play, 2 remotes, and 3 nunchucks, a few picked up Wii Zappers. An Asian kid and his mom were in there together buying a Wii and they each picked up a Wii Zapper. A couple people were getting SMG. The line moved slow because this one guy in the front who must have bought 1,200 dollars worth of Wii stuff total.

Once people realized that I knew alot about the system and games for it they were all asking me which games were the best, the workers were so busy getting people there stuff they could not help anyone. I told them that Mario was the best game to come out in years on ANY system(quoted gamerankings) and that it is a game ALL of their kids would love. The ones that were buying for their sons, I told them that Metriod Prime was an incredible game geared more towards guys. I also recomend RR2 and MP 8 for people wanting a fun multiplayer experiance. The workers seemed happy that I was helping them because they really did not have time to(plus I don't think most of them had Wiis)...

I heard from people who came to this best buy the other was wiped out(All 150+) plus... It would have been more fun to be a Target becuause then I would have gotten to be a part of the stampede : ) ( I am 6'4" 215, Marine... don't tell me I would not have gotten me a Wii... to sell outside at 50 dollar profit to some poor soul who was a little to late : )

Well that is all I had, I hope my grammer was not too bad, I have to leave for church in 15 minutes... and have not gotten changed yet...

I am eager to see the fruition of this strong sales week for Nintendo. It should be interesting.

This morning my sister and I woke up at 5:30 AM to wait in line at Circuit City for a couple of Wiis. It was 34 deg Fahrenheit outside

We got there at about 6 AM and there were already 18 people in front of us, which is funny, because at the Best Buy across the shopping center we went to.

At about 7:30 AM we were handed vouchers 19 and 20 out of 33 total, and at that time some people offered my sister and I $300 for our vouchers. We laughed and declined. We're gonna make more money on Ebay. haha. There were about 80 people in line by the time they opened. Most of the excess were people hoping that they'd somehow still have Wiis after they sold out :-\

Funny note, when they handed out the vouchers, they had to make sure it was only one per household, so they were checking ID's of the people who were gonna buy. My sis, being a minor didn't have an ID, and I saw this coming, so I gave her cash. So just a note to people who are bringing family members.

Afterwards we went to Sears to see if they had any left, and to our surprise, they hadn't received any in about a week. I was under the impression that they were one of the stores Nintendo was gonna push into. Oh well.

So overall, after two hours of waiting, we ended up with two Wiis and very cold hands. Well worth it.
