Forums - Sony - So Long PS3 :(

I didn't realise you couldn't put your backed up data onto another PS3. This seems like a stupid idea from Sony and I can't see the reason why they would stop you from doing this. So basically all this backing up I've been doing has been a waste of time. Oh well here's hoping my 60gb ps3 can survive the onslaught of gaming it's going to get when Mass Effect 2 is released in 2 weeks.

That's incorrect. For only some games, you can't transfer your backups to another PS3. I think it's safe to say that most games these days will allow you to backup, and transfer to another PS3. I know all of my games allowed me to do that when I bought a defective PS3 from Best Buy last Christmas.

Any locked save files won't transfer. I ran into that problem when I tried to trade my Non BC 80GB for my brother's full BC 60GB. Wouldn't have matter anyway, his launch 60GB died on him about 6 months back.

I'd be amazed if Home Insurance covered it. I've yet to see a standard policy that covers "Wear and Tear".  Had it been stolen, well, then I guess it'd be covered. But just imagine insurance companies if they had to cover every one of everybodies electrical devices for breaking down. They'd be out of business in no time.

According to the Sony manual, wear and tear is  not covered.

Sorry to hear man.

I've still got my original UK launch 60gb model (although i have replaced the 60GB hard drive with a 320GB).

I've got to admit im really paranoid that im going to get the YLOD, it's had alot of gaming done on it. So far ive bought 47 games although i only own 23 as ive traded the others, and my girlfriend has also bought the PS MOVE for it. i cant help thinking that it must be nearing its end because of stories like Squall_leonharts. I usually back up my hard drive onto an external every week just incase it does YLOD but it must of been over a month since i last done this.

Im dreading the day that my console switches off never to be switched on again! There cant be muh original 60GB still alive anymore.

My Bestfriend still has a launch 60 Gigger. He doesnt use it much as he only likes racing games.

He just bought GT5 tho so maybe the strain will start to show real soon.

Well changing to the 320GB Slim has also had some other bonuses, the console itself seems to be loading the PS Store quicker and i no longer get an error when trying to download things (having to try several times) so all good

Plus i asked Sony only on Tuesday past via fax to re-assign my Singstar downloads to my new console and it was done in a day or so, very fast and i was rather impressed!

got the other halves 40GB PS3 to use in the meantime, shall just put my HDD in it and continue playing!

It'll make you format the drive before using it.

yes you will have to reformat as above poster has said. thats the negetive about ps3 HDD

This might change in the next few months now the PS3 has been fully compromised.  It would be rather nice if someone developed an app that could decrypt saves from a PS3 HDD.

You need to connect the PS3s with an ethernet cable and go to system settings and choose Data Transfer Utility. That will copy (almost) everything from the old ps3 to the new one, including copy-protected saves and downloaded games and such!

Yeah thats what i did to move content from my old PS3 to the new one but it never moved over any of my Singstar data (not even the saved media being photo's/videos) but ah well, shall just have to start a fresh at the next party lol
