Apparently this is a typical ocurrance in Japan for the week before (Gregorian) New Year. The Source predicted it in the Japan preview.

Nice little lift for GT5, I thought Ni No Kuni was releasing on PS3 too. When will it come out? That PSP has basically tied with NDS this year is amazing in itself, with it being about 50% LTD selling equal is damned good. It would be like PS3 selling equal to 360 in the Americas in a single year.

maybe it will happen the year before the successor for 360 is released while there is no successor to PS3.

yup. That's the magic of holidays. Also, wouldn't it weird if one week it's twice as big then the next it's smaller?

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
