I'm quite happy this has happened, I still don't believe Sony had any right to force people to choose Linux or play newer games.

It amazes me how often people  forget why that happened in the first place.

I didn't forget at all, the original hack Geohot had did NOTHING to allow piracy or run unsigned code other than it allowed you to boot a version of Linux with full access to all the SPU's and GPU.  This was perfect for the homebrew community and he specifically stated he was doing no more work to try and get any encrypted keys from the system.  Sony then blundered in and decided to atagonize Geohot by removing the other OS functionality (something they already had decided wasn't a benefit to sales anymore as they removed it from the slims) and use the excuse it was all HIS fault.

I think you need to read the real history behind what happened and not the rewritten version the angelic Sony would have you believe happened.  They used Geohot to drop a feature they didn't want on their system anymore, I would have respected them far more for being honest and just saying we don't want to support Other OS on older models as we feel it's a feature that isn't used enough.

I was wondering... does anybody know if someone could create an application to remove copy-protection from save files so I can back up my Bayonetta and Vanquish save files now that everyone has the keys to sign apps?

Or is that impossible?

A banner stolen from some site xD

Release Final Fantasy Versus XIII nowwwwwwwwww!!! lol :P

Oh, if PS3 gets a decent homebrew community thanks to this it might place itself above PSP as my next console to get again. Simple things like being able to play PSX games from any region and actually being able to play Tales of Graces F and Tales of Vesperia in English are system selling features!

The possibilities are exciting.

Btw, I hope the anti-piracy peeps in this thread also arn't the same ones downloading music/movies/etcetcetcetc

yea I especially hope they are not the kind of dirt bags that use an ad blocking extensions to go around stealing online revenue left right and centre.

Lol, they wouldn't exactly be stealing revenue, since it doesn't go in their pockets.  Though, they are limiting the revenue that sites get.

the only good things that will come from this are emulators

Lets say someone brings out a hack using this method or whater

Wont sony know if you have this installed? Wont they ban your account from PSN?

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

It is not only possible but inevitable. There is a program for Wii that lets you copy protected saves.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Wow, I didn't know there were copy-protected save files on Wii too. That kind of sucks.

We need memory cards back, lol :P

blu ray burners are going to fly off the shelves as people start pirating games!

I doubt it, some game are way too large to download and burn. I expect more on the lines of renting from Gamefly and copying them to an HDD through use of a loader program.

I expect something in-between: people buying blue ray burners to copy the games they rent. Some games are just too large to fit plenty of them on the ps3's HDD.

Awesome. Now PS3 sales are going to skyrocket in 3rd world nations!

ha but by the logic most of the hyper ant-piracy people depriving a company of revenue it is stealing, and by using the site they are costing the site owners money through bandwidth etc making it worse than piracy.

P.S. No I don't condone piracy...
