Well it is quite likely that Halo in this generation will be bigger than GT in this generation in terms of overall sales. It is also likely that Halo in this generation will have higher sales than GT in any generation if ODST plus 3 plus Reach sell >27M units combined.

However none of this really matters, they are both big series and one being slightly bigger than the other doesn't actually mean anything significant.

GT had 2 games per generation. This generation, GT had 1 (not counting Prolouge) game and Halo had 3 (not counting ODST )  games, so its not really a fair comprassion

Fair is irrelevant.

What is just is.

I remember I made a thread back in early 2009 asking which franchise was bigger...it was quite an epic thread (like 450 replies in it)  Most people laughed and said that GT was most certainly a bigger franchise, some said wait for GT5 to come out and then make a decision, and a few (including myself) said Halo was the bigger franchise.

Now that GT5 is out I can most certainly say that Halo is the bigger franchise (not by a huge margin mind you)

At least I was right about something

Hm? GT3, GT Concept, GT4 Prolouge and GT4 sold 29 million last gen.

PS3 piracy is complicated though isn't it? You cant just dowload games and burn them on discs like Xbox?

why are you even asking this! are you planning to hack your ps3? why do that when al your going play is skyrim next year! moded skyrim!

Ahhhhh.... modded Skyrim, so sweet!

(no im not gonna hack it, but I also dont want to buy fifteen original games for it and then watch my neighbour be able to download dozens of games for his PS3 for free)

wait 15 ps3 games interest you next year? no matter you bought one, that and you already had 5 games :P.

your neighbour is a hacker! damn him he doomed the psp.

No lol but I will reach 15 games in total next year (2011). I have 6 now and I want to pick some old ones too, like Infamous and Dante's Inferno.

Guys stay calm, he's not an official member of the xbox fan club. But I think the reason is that racing games aren't all that bigin america anymore while FPS's are hitting their zenith.

It also doesn't hurt that the rival competition (forza) is more known for quality and delivery nowadays as well.

Japanese sales weren't even factored in.

And while I'm pretty sure this is a toungue in cheek thread, I still had to post that, lol.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

How exactly are you judging the size of the franchises to determine Halo is bigger?  I mean the GT franchise has sold more units than the Halo franchise with probably just as many games in each.  And if you look at sales, Halo Reach started off larger than Halo 3, but around Week 5 it's sales have dropped below that of 3.  So it may end up selling exactly the same as, or less than, Halo 3.  And if you look at Week 5 for GT5, it's sold more than twice that Reach sold Week 5 WW, in EMEAA alone.  So it may end up catching up to Reach.  Again, how is Halo bigger?

Until it surpasses GT3, no it isn't.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

COD owns both.

Well GT games have always had long legs so basing your which game is better off the first month of sales is ignorant. Secondly in a FPS generation comparing GT5 to a game in its racing genre to an Xbox 360 game would be more fitting so Forza 3 = 4.24 million and GT5 = oh dear in 5 weeks its already managed to beat Forza 3s lifetime sales. Hey if you can pull numbers like that too.
