Well 2010 is going out with a bang! With the release of Halo Reach and GT5 in the same year and similar install bases, we can finally get a fair comparisson of sales. The analysis below pretty much tells the story. Halo seems to edge out GT5 as the more popular series. Both games are great, but pretty much any way you twist the data HALO comes out on top. Let's examine the facts.
Battle #1
- Halo ODST, a full priced $60 expansion easily outsold a cheaper GT5P
- GT5P only cost $40 versus $60 for Halo: ODST
- ODST outsold GT5P's limetime easily in less than 1 year
- Verdict: Halo wins Battle #1
Battle #2
- Halo Reach 3.3 million 1 month in strongest region (America)
- GT5 3 million DURING CHRISTMAS (#1 shopping time of year) in strongest region (Europe)
- Veridict: Halo wins Battle #2

Other interesting information, predictions and trends:
- GT5 will never outsell Halo Reach or Halo 3 unless heavily bundled (Extrapolating current sales trends)
- GT5 has a lower Metacritic score than Halo 3 and Halo Reach which is probably one reason why GT5 is lagging behind Halo in sales
- XBOX 360 is pirated, therefore it is logical to assume MILLIONS of Halo game sales have been lost due to piracy.
- PS3 is NOT pirated, therefore it is logical to assume zero games sales have been lost due to piracy.
- It seems that the HUGE ps2 install base greatly benefitted GT3 and GT4
