When DICE launched the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam expansion they also pulled the trigger on a race to unlock a hidden fifth map. The challenge was for players on each platform to perform 69 million team actions. DICE have thrown up the tally so far, and PC gamers have performed more team actions than the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined.

A team action is any action that a player takes to help out team mates, including throwing down medipacks, ammo crates, marking enemies on the area map, repairing vehicles and reviving fallen allies. So far PC gamers have amassed more than 60 million team actions, compared to 31 million on the Xbox 360 and 23 million on the Playstation 3.

The map is called Operation Hastings, and is a remixed and updated version of an old map that originally appeared in Battlefield Vietnam. The map will not unlock on each platform until that platform has reached the 69 million team action mark. It looks as though PC players will get access to the map way before the consoles do.

but I thought no one played shooters on PC anymore? 

Console gamers are obviously busy playing Halo:Reach,Black Ops,and GT5 :P.

Considering Battlefield has always been a PC centric game, I'm not surprised.

and PC gamers are busy playing Counter strike, counter strike: source, Team fortress 2 and Left 4 dead 2 all of which are trending higher on steam stats than bad company 2 and that's just shooters many PC gamers are also playing Starcraft 2, Civ 5 and don't forget World of warcraft.

So what's your point...

PC gaming for FPS is still big it's just not as visible as it's centred outside US where that demographic has shifted massively to consoles or around digital sales a'la Steam.  As an aside you can normally figure a region where 360 is much weaker is one where PC will remain dominant for FPS -  for example in Germany you'll still regularly see PC FPS titles outsell console FPS titles.

I still find that, although PC FPS online has its fair share of annoying lone wolves, cheaters, etc, you still find better teamwork and play on PC vs consoles for this type of title.

Given the nature of the challenge was aimed firmly at teamwork vs focusing on your own character leveling or K/D ratio I'm not surprised at the result.

Another nail in the coffin of PC gaming...

Check the global stats page. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions have had more hours as well as kills logged versus the PC version, lol. Though the Xbox 360 version has the most spec stats (shock paddles, ammo boxes, ect).

Still, yea for teamwork rather than just going lone wolf. I like the possible communities of game servers rather than the more annonymous nature of matchmaking.

Makes me miss the double XP weekend of MAG where I happened to be invited to join a group and we ended up all watching out for eachother and the objectives and I'd bag over 1,000 xp a game.
