This took place 2 years ago during Spring Break. Local Affliate FOX16.

Two years ago I had an assignment for my Career Orientation class. She told us we had to job shadow someone in a field we were interested in. So I decided to job shadow someone in the media especially within their business sector. I'm not sure whether it was the business manager or one of the directors. The 'big boss' was out for vacation and he gave temporary 'boss' status to the business manager or one of the directors. Either way I ended up job shadowing the person he picked. Everything went smoothly once I arrived there but I was about 10 minutes late. The director of sales (I believe was his postition) took me to a tour of the building. I got to meet the nice reportors, the set, etc. I was then placed to job shadow 'the temp boss'. He talked about ratings and how the station earns its revenue, etc. After all was done and time for me to go and as I got up he told me to listen.

"I know I will NEVER see you again so I will tell you this, *tone of voice changes* you are LUCKY I took your request. The reason doesn't matter for whatever might have caused you to come late, neither do i wanna know. You came in here 10 minutes late. I thought you weren't going to come. I took my time to assist you. I had all this work I was going to start with..."

That's a summary of what he said, he said more stuff but I don't recall since it's almost been 2 years since. I left FOX16 rapidly from being happy to a feeling of depression as if a Dementor had sucked all of my happiness away. As I left I thought to myself if I had done something else wrong. Maybe it was because I told him I liked MADtv (which makes fun of fat people). He sounded frustrated. I know arriving late isn't ideal. But to raise your voice and change your tone of voice to frustration to a 14 year old? Come on! He could of just warned me nicely that I shouldn't arrive late, but no he had to expand on it in a disrespectful way. To this day it still makes me sad.

I'm not sure if "shadowing" == stalking.

seriously, though, don't let it bug you, he probably got angry on something else and you were just his unlucky pick for him to vent on.

Also, why do you like MADtv!!??!11!!!

Maybe it was because he felt superior of his short lived 'big boss' status >_<

They have some of the best sketches ever. I only watch SNL during the political season. Their Spy vs Spy shorts were amazingly addicting and their short lived Clops. Some of their music videos are hilarious like Hiding in my closet. I could go on.

Someone lock this...this thread is just tooo depressing!

I would of been peeved at you being late too. He is doing you a favor, and you show your respect by being late?

Yeah, I can't blame him for being upset. It's frustrating when you have a ton of stuff to do, and you need to meet someone, so you set aside time to do it, and then they're late, causing you to have to do all that work in even less time. That said, he's kind of a dick for saying it like that. Just take it as a lesson and don't be late. I always freak out if I'm late for being early. Crazy, maybe, but I'm always on time.

Also, don't hate Fox because of one guy getting frustrated. Hate that guy, maybe, but not Fox. You can hate Fox for other stuff. I dislike most TV networks myself.

I once fired a new hire for showing up late on the first day.

You shouldn't have been late. Period. And if you were late for some reason, you better have a damned good reason for it, like your car exploding when you put the keys into the ignition.

Welcome to the real world, kiddo. The guy WAS doing you a favor and you should have acknowledged that and been thankful enough to show up on time.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

I think you really need to do your best to get over it.  Just giving a warning is what society does with everybody else when they mess up, and the people just continue doing it because warnings don't do jack crap.  Clearly him getting on you like that has had a much larger effect...and I hope has led to you trying to be on time, if not even early to important events.

By the way, being 10 minutes late to something like that is massively disrespectful, and I would consider yourself extremely lucky that he did still help you out.  When you have something like that, if anything, you should do your best to be there 10 minutes early to show respect towards them.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

If his speech makes you think twice about being late again, good for him.  Don't be late and don't get all upset for being called out for being late.  You're disrespecting him by showing up late, saying your time is more important than his time.  He gave you an opportunity to view the insides of local media on his own time and you were ungrateful enough to show up late.  SUCK IT UP.

Personally, I usually disembowel people who like Mad TV, so you got off pretty light IMO.
