There are so many factors involved that you really can't narrow it down to just a few. I think the major reasons that the PS3 could be viewed as a better console are these:
1. Better graphically (although at some times you can't really tell the difference). But the truth is that the graphics on the 360 are really good too. The original xbox had better graphics than the playstation 2, but we saw how that wasn't a major deterent for the PS2's success.
2. Hardware. The PS3 is a better future-proof product. Sony are by far the best at planning ahead this generation. The problem is that the hardware, although more powerful than the 360, gets in its own way. Example: my son just bought Battlefield 2 for his PS3. I asked him how he liked the game, because he purchased it earlier in the day. He told me that he was waiting for the game to install. IT TOOK 10 HOURS FOR HIM TO INSTALL THE GAME! That is absurd. If he would have bought it on the 360, he could have finished the game in the same amount of time that it took him to install it on the PS3.
3. Blu-Ray. This is the PS3's saving quality, that distinguishes itself from the 360. Yes, it does have it. But if you remember, the 360 had its version with the HD-DVD. To be honest, either one could have won. Obviously, we know who did. I know a few people that haven't sold their PS3 because of its blu-ray capabilities.
4. Exclusives(currently)- for next year, the PS3 has the best exclusives by far. That is one of the major problems: CURRENTLY. The PS3 suffered for a long time to have legitimate, good, and plentiful exclusives. In fact, one of the reasons to buy a 360 was because of all of its exclusives. The PS3 is now cathcing up, and for all of the PS3 fanboys, if you think that the 360 won't have more exclusives next year, you're sorely mistaken.
5. Price. Right now the PS3 is comparably priced, with actually a better overall deal with the blu-ray player included. Obviously, I don't need to talk about the blunder of its original price point.
As I have stated above, the PS3 has many great qualities that would make it a great purchase for anyone looking for a quality gaming experience. The problem is that Sony allowed Microsoft to get a strong foothold into the gaming market. Oh yeah. By the way, THE 360 IS A GREAT GAMING CONSOLE TOO!! I think people forget that fact when they are writing about how great and superior the PS3 is. If the PS3 gets a 95% for a score, then the 360 would probably get a 94%. I prefer my 360(I own both), by far. I understand that others prefer the PS3. That's the thing. IT IS A PREFERENCE!! I don't understand why so many people associate the greatness of a gaming console to themselves. Did you make it? Is it a member of your family(I hope everyone would say no)? OK then, we should just play what system we like, or love, and stop trying to convince everyone else about how wonderful our particular system is. Honestly, 4 years of writing how the PS3 is superior to the 360? As a gaming community, don't we have better issues to write about?
