Forums - Gaming - Is Nier's Storyline As Good As People Say It Is?

I'd give it an 8.5. It's a great game with a lot of diversity. The multiple genre NieR explores doesn't stand out as amazing, but when put together, it creates a unique and enjoyable experience. The combat is average, but it has a lot of neat magic attacks. The story is pretty good once it picks up, and the strong supporting cast and superb script make it memorable. I also have to add that the boss battles are pretty cool, especially the one before the midpoint. That boss battle was the one that stood out the most for me.

For the bad stuff, the graphics aren't that impressive (however, I found the art direction interesting). Most of the side quests are dull, as in having you farm for multiple stuff. Lastly, there's backtracking; that means revisiting the same four dungeons. Overally, it's a great game...an underrated gem. Every JRPG fan should give it a try.

I would say about a solid 9 or so.

I got Nier two days ago...and I beat it last night...so yeah it's a pretty good game
I've only got ending A so far but the plot twist at the end puts the entire second half of the the game in an entirely different light
The voice acting is incredible, it really surprised me, I loved the banter between my party
Combat isn't anything to write home about it's simple but has enough variety to keep it interesting
The gameplay too changes a lot, nothing it does is mastered but it's a game with a lot of ideas so it never gets boring even though some of them don't work at all

it's not an amazing game but it's a unique experience that mixes a lot of different gameplay styles, mostly well with a great cast of characters and an interesting story, it's a solid 8 to me but that could change after my second playthrough.

Now before when I didn't want this game, it was everywhere.  I'd go outside to get my mail and kids would toss a copy of Nier and hit me in the head with it.  Now that I want to buy it, I can't find it!  And the reviews, the people (like Euphoria) and THIS THREAD are making me want the game even more!!

ill give it a 9 but im not done yet. one thing ill say about some of the sidequest is that they had interesting dialogue despite the nature of the objective. like how deep the lighthouse sidequests went idk those were kinda cool to me. and @ d21lewis order online man lo..

Just got it!

Hmm...I'm seriously thinking of finding a cheap copy of this game...the more I hear, the more interesting it sounds.

Edit: BTW, the soundtrack is freaking amazing. That said, I can't stand vocals in any game OST (a few exceptions, though).

But listen to this:

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Now I want to pick it up too -_-

What I want from a game.

Gameplay > Story > Content > Graphics

Visual Style > Graphics

Smooth Camera, Intuitive Controls

Friction! When everything feels right!

Yeah the soundtrack is one of if not the best one this generation.

Ill have to say 7. Personally, it loose points because of its broken combat and lack of interesting side quest. Still a good RPG to play when theres no new RPG.
