Haha, Excellent topic, and so true

I am a girl who reads and I also despise twilight, stephanie meyer has a horrible writing style, the stories are tedious teen dramas and bella swan is the worst character in any medium, ever. I won't even go into that one...

Playing devils advocate though 'liking' Dostoyevsky is almost as equal of a stretch as liking twilight. While Dostoyevsky is a masterful writer and some of his works are bona fide classics. His works are extremely tedious also, of course this is somewhat counterbalanced by the real value in the morals and insight they provide to the reader (much unlike twilight) but rarely have I ever heard someone say they 'like' Dostoyevsky. While the value of such works are not reallly in dispute by anyone, whether or not they hold your interest enough to enjoy them certainly is by many.

However I did some art history and philospohy of art papers in my degree and we had a few fine artists who said they liked him, but they were so pretentious I strongly believe they were just doing it to annoy people. Even the lecturers admitted that they worried about the perception of 'fun' of someone who would avidly enjoy such works.

But then my absolute favourite classic work is Paradise Lost which is widely considered to be one of the most boring works in the written canon so I'm probably being hypocritcal by even saying this, take my opinion with a grain of salt on this one.

PullusPardus and pizzahut should be forced to listen to Twilight audio books read by Robert Pattinson.

This seems like a very unusual opinion because most of the women I know who are actually avid readers and interested in reading literature have absolutely hated the Twilight series. Their core complaint seems to be that it is a harlequin romance novel that targets the immature romantic fantasies of teenage girls (and teenage girls at heart) that is wrapped in a facade of the vampire genre; while the author complete ignores all vampire lore, and hundreds of years of literary tradition about vampires.

Seemed appropriate here.

So I visited my cousins today and somehow our conversation ended up being about Twilight. My cousin is a huge fan of the series, and she told me she was shocked that her brother's girlfriend didn't like Twilight and found it stupid and boring (his girlfriend's a huge literature buff).

She went on to say something along the lines of: "I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like Twilight!!!"

Since it's Christmas I thought I'd share this quote and the gift of laughter with VGchartz members.

I hope you use that quote as copypasta for years to come.

"You don't like Pepperoni Pizza? I don't understand how someone could like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, but not like pepperoni pizza!!!"

What I get from Twilight is this: the girl can decide between "having fun" with an emo vampire, or a hot werewolf.

I hope I'm wrong.

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Even on a purely technical level the books are full of holes, clunky dialogue, and paper-thin characters. Bella in particular is a classic example of a Mary Sue, a character who exists solely as a trait-deficient block the reader can project onto as a wish fulfillment fantasy. She doesn't really have any traits and there's no clear description of her physical appearance in the books.

Why ?

The fact that Twilight is as popular as it is should tell you what garbage it is.  With each new generation, the mainstream audience is becoming less and less cultured and sophisticated.  The more shallow and trashy the content, the more the mainstream audience suck it up nowadays.  If you were to randomly poll the average American today, I bet most of them can't tell you who Dostoyevsky is.
