Yes, there haven't been any threads that have caused the community to go to war lately.

Smeags' VGC Top 50 Games thread has kept me interested. Other than that, yes.

Things will probably get more exciting as GamrConnect 2.0 is released in mid-January.

Yeah, since the troll barrage these past months any "debates" were banning fields. There's also pretty much nothing coming out any time soon, and the mods have gone on crackdown. There don't seem to be many threads about video game sales recently...

My guess as to why there aren't as many threads about game sales is because they all turn into the same people making the same argument that has been made in countless other sales threads. Add this to the increase in new trolling accounts, older posters learning how they can troll and flame without our being permit to act on it (and in some cases, actually being told its not a troll/flame, despite our seeing it the same way as the alert on the post), and other behind the scenes rifts, and well... the incentive to have a good conversation is pretty much gone. I tried going into crackdown mode for a bit to improve things, but it caused more of those rifts I mentioned before.

For the subject itself, it's a cyclical industry. Things from this gen are starting to set, and those that aren't are what have degenerated into troll and flame wars. Since there's left good stuff to discuss, it would get less exciting. Once new systems come out, I'd guess that things will pick up again.

I recall rol posting about his how to become a "good soldier in the console wars", so our new comers get banned for following some of the rules he posted, so I blame rol.

dunno001 already said what I came here to say.... this generation is getting old now, a major factor in the excitement of this website early on was the start of the generation, people not knowing how it was going to pan out... predictions about the outcome that now seem fantastical, but back then were certainly within the realms of possibility. (in 2007 the PS3 catching the Wii and "winning" the generation was at least plausible to the rational non-Sony fans, while in 2008 the Wii was expected to continue it's vast momentum through 2009 and onwards (I predicted someting like 75 million sales by the end of 2009, a figure it only passed a couple of months ago)

The 3DS will bring a little excitement back, but there has to be a proper battle to make it like it was, so the PSP2 will help some more. It will take at least 2 home console releases to get properly exciting though (as generally the handhelds hold less interest in discussions even if the hardware sales are higher than the home consoles)

Other factors do come into play of course, the site re-design put a few more people off than it brought new people in imo... and while many of the oddly left out features have trickled back in there are still a few missing that I have no idea why they were taken out. (some promised future features though sound excellent.... I am hoping it isn't going to be too long till the graphs are back to their former glory (and more as some new features are in already, even if they are pointless features without old functionality at the same time.... the pin mode is great, but when you can only see a cumulative sales chart it's not much use)

Bring back the IM already :(

No way, I have had so much fun debating the legalization of Marijuana the past few days!!!

Well, several things:

* Likely at least have way through this generation for consoles.  Maybe we got a few more years left, or it is the midway point, if you believe in 10 year plans.  With Gran Turismo 5 out, and LittleBigPlanet 2 about a month away, what is left?  Well, there is Gears 3, but anything else?  Not sure anything is left to really surprise.  Well, maybe the next Batman game might.

* It is the holiday season now.  Well, more like we led up to the holiday season, and now are past Christmas.  So, the companies did their best to spin.  Now it is time to recover from everything.  VGA had reveals, but what else?

* Systems are settling into where they will sell.  Not sure anyone knows of any surprises that may change the console wars.

* People are likely doing holiday recovery time, and PLAYING more than anything else, like acting like console war partisans who feel a need to win minds, which is a good thing.

All and all, I did vote note here.  Things are what they are.  VGChartz only does what it can do, depending on content and so on.  Hey, don't wish for excitement, because you may face Apple storming at the gates, and an influx of Apple fanboys who insist that real gamers MUST play that throw the trash into the waste can game.  They will say that is greater than Mario Galaxy 2, Gran Turismo 5, and a Halo: Reach combined.

Just wait until 3DS releases aka start of next gen.

I do think this site has gone stale tbh. The posters are getting really boring. All just giving the same replys to the same threads every stinkmout week.

I probably find it boring tho cause i dnt reall ypost anymore cause i always seemed to get banned for nothing. Hence the reason i dont make threads anymore
