I'm gonna hit you.

DQX is as likely to be released in 2011 as most of those titles and it's more JRPG than pretty much every non-DQ JRPG in existence, so you better put it on there, ;(!

considering that he put Xenoblade on the list I have to assume he's basing it on US releases and I'd have to disagree, there is basically no chance in hell that DQX would make it to NA in 2011.  I can't find any DQ with a time between JP and NA release less than a year so unless it gets released Japan in the next 7 days I'd say you're boned.

dragon quest 8

you are technically correct, I looked up the release dates and flipped which release was on the 27th of November and which was on the 15th of November in my head so that was slightly less than a year, but my larger point still stands.

lol your point still does i just wanted to point it out.

yeah, I knew I should've stuck with something more obvious like "more than 11 months" to give myself more breathing room to not screw up.  Oh well.

As you all may know, a group of potentially excellent JRPGs will be coming out in 2011.

Here is the list:

Xenoblade - from the reception from Japan and the people over here that imported the game, it's pretty much offical that Xenoblade is an excellent and very progressive JRPG that pushes the genre forward. And with this letter from Nintendo saying that Xenoblade will have a US release but that Nintendo just hasn't came up with a proper release date for it (though, things are looking grim for The Last Story):

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/960564-xenoblade/57566991

We'll get the chance to possibly say that as well.

The Last Story - From what we saw from the trailers and the details we've read, this looks to be the JRPG that will set the standard for all JRPGs after it on how next gen JRPG gameplay should be done.

Disgaea 4 - A Disgaea game with graphics fitting for the next gen. Need I say more?

Final Fantasy Versus XIII (maybe) - It looks way to good to be bad. I know that's a weak argument....but still.

Ni no Kuni (PS3 Version) - Like Versus XIII, this game looks too good to be bad. Also, Studio Ghibli is the co-creators of the game (the people responsible for the creation of the anime movie, Spirited Away, another reaon why it's going to be bloody awesome).

Check out the trailer:

It looks fantasic.

So, what do you think? 2011 = Revival of the JRPG Genre on Consoles?

I <3 2011 :D

Yeah i know my spelling sucks but im dysgraphic so live with it :3

Conegamer - I say that the PS3 will beat the DS next week in Japan  (for hardware sales) Forfeit is control over others avatar for 1 week.

hmm sounds like JRPGs aren't going to be doing so well next year TBH unless a bunch are announced at E3 or something probably for the 3DS, I mean most on your list have a low chance of coming out outside of japan and one might not even make japan next year...

WRPGS on the other hand have

Hunted : The Demon's Forge

Two Worlds II

Dragon Age II

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

The Witcher 2 : Assassin Of Kings

Mass Effect 3

Torchlight II

Neverwinter

Diablo III

Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim

Bastion'

Dungeon Siege 3

The Lord of the Rings: War in the North

and that's not even all of them though some will be delayed I think

next year is defiantly the year of the RPG but JRPGs still look as lacking as they have been this whole generation outside of the DS

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

pokemon black and white> all those rpgs combined i think

Xenoblade, The Last Story, Versus XIII and Ni No Kuni haven't been confirmed for 2011, and there's no way Versus XIII will come out next year. I read a preview for Ni no Kuni where the writer praised the graphics, but was a little let down with the gameplay. Don't remember the reason why. I think it was from RPGFan.

As for Disgaea 4, yes, I do think you need to say more. I liked the first one, and the second one was alright. But I got bored with the third one. Gameplay wise, it was more of the same, and the story/characters didn't do it for me. I didn't find this one funny nor interesting. IDK, maybe I've just grown bored of the series. I'm skipping part 4 unless I hear something that interests me.

2011 is looking more like the year of WRPGs. Just look at zarx's post.

not really, they will be overshadowed by the wrpgs

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

I have been yearning for an excellent JRPG for the PS3 for some time now. How about that Tales of Xilia game for PS3, is it localized only in Japan?

I really doubt FF Versus XIII will release since like I haven't heard about that game at all since it was announced a few years back. However, a Dark Cloud 3 or a brand new JRPG IP would be absolutely incredible (for the PS3).

people are comparing JRPGs on consoles to WRPGs on consoles, really?  That's  hardly a fair test, considering this gen most of the amazing JRPGs haven't come out on home consoles (DQIX, Pokemon D/P/Pt, Mario & Luigi, etc) and that the majority of the WRPGs have.

On topic, next year looks really good for JRPGs, but their home is still the portables.  Personally I prefer it that way myself.

Dare I say it, I've found several portable JRPG's to be better than the "so called amazing" console WRPG's
