Other people having an opinion does not invalidate his, is the point.

but other people giving info that is more solid than his is fine which is what boutros did to me.

Other people's opinions do not constitute "information". There is the fact of the opinions, which is to say that the opinions exist, but the opinions do not constitute factual data in and of themselves, and are not an absolute indicator of quality.

To the people saying "But it's a new IP!"...so was Gears of War...and Assassin's Creed.

Exactly, FF7 was a new IP in Europe when it sold 2.7 mil in that region, not to mention i think FF7 wouldve been a lot higher in Europe if it was made availble. i bought 2 pre owned copies, which i lent to 2 friends, who ended up buying pre owned copies themselves.

and FF7 was like a new IP in the US when it sold 3m and went on to sell near 10mil worldwide. The Last Story has this oppertunity because i think Nintendo will spend a lot of money on marketing, not to mention i think Sakaguchis name will carry a lot of weight in the west for RPGs fans.

Actually, there were eight games released with the Final Fantasy branding before FF7 was released; one on NES, four on gameboy, and three more on SNES. The Final Fantasy brand was already the highest selling and most critically respected RPG series ever, in North America, long before FF7 came out. FF6 sold close to a million copies in the US.

In the EU, FF7 was the first. Of course in the US the was some interest in FF, since FF6, but i was under the impression it wasnt until FF7 that the series became popular in the US. before that it was merley a cult following, that was my understanding anyway. so when FF7 came out, it was like a new IP because the series was relatively unknown at the time. but FF6s 1 mil is a substantial number tbh.

your right but if one person is just giving solely his opinion while another person is giving his opinion and the opinion of others based on the same subject it will be genrally seen as the latter is more in the right which i can understand completely. something doesnt have to be factual for it to be generally accepted and known about.

I doubt this game will outsell monster hunter tri. Not that it won't deserve it but this game has no casual appeal and the best selling wii game without casual appeal is resident evil 4 at 1.8mil. Maybe if they find a way to attract the casual audience which I think would end up ruining the game, but without them it has no shot at all of getting near final fantasy numbers.

Yes, but Japan loves RPGs, Resident Evil is more like a western franchise, we love. i love RE4, but Japan loves RPGs and Sakaguchi. i think it will do about 3 mil in Japan tbh. and if its marketed well 1 mil in the EU and 1.5 maybe 2 mil in the US.

i think it has the potential to outsell FF12 and FF13, but FF7, 10, 8 are out of the question tbh. even popular western games this gen are failing to reach those kinds of numbers.

Well, there is a possibility that The Last story franchise will end up selling more than the FF one. But, I think its too early to say anything, at least wait until TLS I does well and a sequel is announced ;)

FFX is easily considered the best JRPG of all time so whatever you are talking about.

By whom do you mean?

Is it you?

http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=138232 (FFXIII, DQIX and MH are just a fad on that list)

A much better effort than I expected, but no. THe thing about the first list is that it doesn't actually pit JRPGs against each othe rin particular, and progressing the furthest of any JRPG isn't the same thing as being the most well-loved wthin a given demographic.

All of the lists have the problem of being opt-in and thus inherently non-representative of larger populations.

The third list doesn't support you at all.

An appeal to authority for an authority that doesn't exist in any meaningful way (and no, none of these are representative) is less-than-useless. Don't go about making claims of the tastes of the majority unless you have indicators that are well and truly indisputable.

Are you serious? It's a known fact that FFX is almost guaranteed to end up on the top 5 of any list it's put in.

I understand that you are not very fond of FFX, but the reality of it is, ALOT of people are. There's a reason why it ended up becoming the first FF game with a direct sequal to it.

I have seen many hundreds of lists without it in it. I agree it should be guaranteed a place in the top 5 of 1 list in particular, the most overrated games of all time list.

along with xenogears lol.

This has been a very entertaining thread.  The question itself is a little premature.  I'm more of a baby step type of person, so if The Last Story can pass Lost Odyssey's 840K sold and quality (my favorite console JRPG this gen), then I'll be happy.

360 Games Now Playing   360 Games unopened:  Resonance of Fate  Last 360 Game I Beat: Resident Evil 5

DS Games Now Playing: Dragon Quest VI  DS Games unopened Knights in the Nightmare, Etrian Odyssey III, Okamiden, Dragon Quest IX Last DS Game I beat: Radiant Historia

Wii Games Now Playing  Super Mario Galaxy 2, Arc Rise Fantasia  Wii  Games unopened  Little King's Story, Sonic Colors, Silent Hill Shattered Memories Last Wii Game I beat: Sin & Punishment 2

Yeah, i think the thing for me is, and i think for other people is, if this can match something like FF12, or 13, it sends a strong message to Wada and Sqaure that FF13 can never happen again. and that Sakaguchi is the man to ensure that. but of course we shouldnt be premature, this is a new IP, and we cant assume anything, eg Alan Wake.
