Forums - Sales - Japan and the PS3 WTH???

I think it all has to do with length of the title (time wise). Popular japanese generes like JRPG's last 50-100 hours and you grown to attached and spend a month plus with the title to send it bakc. Or even after the months or so when you sell it as a used a game that still leaves the title 4-6 weeks of hardcore gamers buying it new because no one is selling it.

I do believe a JP gamers are hardcore and even myself personally see no pointing in buying 10 hours games new when i can just rent them. Since a lot of western games are emphasized by their multiplayer (Shooters) I don't see how JP gamers would buy anything else other than long sim racer like GT a huge  platform game like Mario or support their traditional RPG's over our own.

It's just rational sense that can't be properly explained so it's called xenophobia. Really its nationalism and bust for buck aren't some games like 100 USD their?...

I would spend my money carefully

I only buy used games for my PS3, even If I have to wait a little longer for it, I waited like 3 months and I bought Uncharted 2 for $14.99 at my Blockbuster, I never minded not playing my PS3 games right away Its different with a Nintendo game I get that right away, besides when you look at PS3s best sellers majority of those are Western developed games which are not appealing to the japanese audience, I mean 3 out of the top 4 selling games for PS3 are FPS.(Call of Duty for that matter). which stats have shown it's not a popular genre. The PS2 had A LOT more variety on genres, plenty of RPGS, Platformers, which are more likely to be sold over there. then again I might be wrong.

Maybe Because Japan is a dead area for games lol JK. But seriously I see the same thing but if Japanesse compaines like Capcom want to be successful they have to appeal to the Western Audience were games Sale alot better than Japan or Asia for that matter.

Their gaming culture is very xenophobic, foreign games fail because they're shiat no matter how well they do abroad. -_-

I don't think it's a matter of xenophobia but a matter of pop culture. Japanese have a well established entertainment industry and they have their on culture for it. It's wrong to say because it was popular in a different country it should be popular elsewhere, tis not always the case.

“Japan’s never been very receptive to foreign games,” says Gwyn Campbell, who works for a major game publisher in Tokyo and is the host of a gaming podcast with other expatriates. “The term ‘foreign game’ is traditionally an insult — it means ‘low quality.’”

The anti-Western prejudice is deeply ingrained in the minds of Japanese gamers, who traditionally favor handheld devices like the Nintendo DS over high-powered consoles like the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

Sure he isn't just jealous of games like Call of duty and Halo because they sell millions of more copies than games they make over there in japan.

Japan hasn't been enticed by a console game(sans SMBWii) in ages.  That's the real problem.  When someone makes the next Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest on PS3 and/or 360, I'm sure they'll sell through the roof.

Pixel Art can be fun.

It doesn't have a Monster Hunter, Pokemon, Or Mario.

Dont forget FF.

Well, that's not surprising really. I've been saying this for years. This is why the Xbox 360 and it's games haven't sold well in Japan. It's mainly because Japanese gamers hate American made games and products. The only thing they love from America is the IPod, IPad , WoW and Starcraft. lol!! They hate our cars, T.V's and other electronics. The Asian market loves to exports all their crap to America for us, but refuse to import our products to their country. Even when they do, they rarely buy anything American. This has been going on for many, many years. That's why our government has been trying to get an equal fair trade requirement made and signed by foreign countries.

It's just electronics and automobiles that Japan tends to have a nationalistic consumer pride in.  And it's not absolute, Apple, Phillips and Samsung all do pretty well for themselves there.  Hell, even Microsoft does overall.

When it comes to about everything else though (movies, fashion, beverages, retail chains, etc) Japan LOVES American brands.

They live on a relatively small island and are far more numerous than the Britts, how could they not end up crazy ?
