Forums - Gaming - GameBlurb: Versus - Mass Effect 2 Screenshot Comparison

Only difference I see is a big lack of shadows on the PS3 version. It also looks more bright, like most multiplatform PS3 games actually.

But to me, this is trivial since the PC version is still the winner here. Also, nice new features on Jacob's suit. Looks a bit more detailed.

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Once Again, 360 Multiplat (even a late Port!) looks better.

I can assure you that is hardly the case. The PS3 version, as other sites have pointed out, edges out the win. I'm not sure how this particular conclusion was drawn by GameBlurb, but after personal playtime, I can assure you the PS3 version looks better (even if it is slight).

Which other sites ? Any sources ?

BioWare is on the record in stating that the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 has enhanced visuals.

"One of the first things you're going to see is improved graphics," game producer Jesse Houston said during a recent BioWare podcast. "We actually created the engine for Mass Effect 3 and used that to make Mass Effect 2 PS3. So we took the content, the story and all of the other assets that made up Mass Effect 2 and we put it into the Mass Effect 3 engine."

It stands to reason that BioWare would want to make adjustments to the core engine for what is now a cross-platform project: this is, after all, an extensively retooled Unreal Engine 3. However, direct visual comparisons with the same scenes on the existing Xbox 360 version of Mass Effect 2 suggest that not all of the changes are not for the better. There's a curious mixture of improvements, downgrades and swapped out effects.

You basically disproved your own point, because the actual developers >>>> some reviewer's site.

A developer would surely know their own product better.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Btw, digitalfoundry is famous for not admitting it when a PS3 version is superior. Best example is Vanquish, where they had to bring in "controller lag" to make it look like a tie.

Anyways, I don't think the difference is worth giving a sh*t. I have played the 360 version 1 1/2 times and the PS3 demo(which is 1 hour long). The PS3 demo consists of Mordin's recruitment and the first mission. I think the PS3 version might have better textures in some areas, but other than that, the game seemed to look pretty much the same. Illusive man might look a bit better on the 360 though, for anyone who gives a crap.

PC version might be the winner but I wonder if you've actually played it to say the PS3 version lack shadows, if anything it has more, and more accurate ones too. It's the ME3 engine doing that work, and if that shadow will be in the console versions for ME3, the console players are in for a treat.

I didn't play the demo, no. I thought the point of the thread was to talk about the screenshot comparisons though?

check out DF's video comparison too, as far as I can see, I doubt they actually tailored the ME2 assets to the PS3 (I wouldn't either if I was the dev) so the shaders don't look as nice, I'm hoping ME3 on PS3 would solve that issue so everybody gets to enjoy the new game on a relatively close level, but man the Lighting and Shadows are way better for the console version on the ME3 engine, that's for sure. The average consumer most likely won't see close up differences since they'd be on a big TV sitting pretty far away but the improved shadows would definitely help the immersion. If I've learned anything in the past few years, it's that SS does not do a game justice, and that's mainly because of the Wii, on SS, a lot of Wii games look terrible, but look great in motion so the end result is very different, which is something I never realized being a PC gamer before where everything is always so much more advanced.

Bioware, like all developers in this situation hype the next installment. Now, i'm not saying that the PS3 version is inferior, but what do you expect Bioware to say? "Oh by the way, we've made compromises and had to downgrade, and swap out effects from the Xbox 360 original." C'mon man...get real.

No, but a normal developer would say something like that all versions are equal and tehre are no advantages in having a different version. However, that the developers have the need to state that the PS3 version is superior shows that there must be some truth behind this.

Not when they want the 360 owners who also own a PS3 to go out and buy the game a second time.
