I still think the PSP2 sales will surprise some people. As it seems it will be really powerful and try to cater to the hardcore gamers instead of go to the wide market as iOS devices and 3DS. It could get a very loyal fanbase and pull up healthy sales and revenue for Sony.

Catering to the so called "hardcore" would mean very little success compared to nintendo handhelds.

And the psp was more powerful than the ds and that didn't signal better sales

Well, we do know a little actually thanks to developer leaks...

  • "HD" screen, no touch, no 3D
  • visuals roughly on par with "early PS3 titles"
  • dual analog nubs, rear touchpad, tilt-control
  • no UMD, media to be solid state and/or DD
  • PSP Go style "fold out" controls panel
  • release at end of 2011, devs have had kits for months already
  • Uncharted Portable being done by Sony Bend

those are all rumors.

Well placed rumors, that seem generally supported by the press and come from multiple sources.  Sure, they're still rumors because there's no "official" word, but they're all most likely true.  Dev leaks often are, especially when it comes to Sony's stuff (PS3 slim, PSP Go, Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, Arc/Move, etc, etc)...

the only thing i am sure about is it will be very powerful. For now, rumors means nothing to me.

Well, leaks tend to mean something, particularly with Sony who's gotten sort of notorious for having things leaked before announcement.  Given past precedent, I don't see anything in that list that's really unlikely to happen...

The PSP was the only true challenger to Nintendo's handheld market.  Nintendo had a monopoly on that market for decades and SONY was ably to sell over 60 million consoles.  I think the PSP2 will sell better than its predacessor and the 3DS will sell a little worse than the DS but Nintendo will still sell many more consoles than the PSP2.  AND THAT IS OK!!!  SONY found a market for people who want to pay a little more for something that is twice as good as a DS and they are going to cash in on it.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

You are talking about a leak about the dev kit which really will be quite different than the real PSP2. We all know the PSP2 will be loaded with features, but given how little we know, I say we wait.

I'm actually talking about multiple leaks concerning dev kits and preliminary hardware, and really none of them are likely to change when it comes to the final product.  Except the Uncharted Portable thing, which really is just a rumor afaik.

Obviously there's going to be more to PSP2 than we know now (hell, there's going to be a lot more to 3DS than we know now even)... but as of now, we still know at least something.

Personally, given what we know (and where the leaks seem to be originating) I think PSP2's big push is going to be with western devs rather than the Japanese.  With dual analog now, I can see lots of publishers wanting to push handheld FPS to the American market especially... COD on PSP2 could be huge.

multiple leaks?  there's been one leak showin the dev kit in blurry pics which we have no idea if real or not.

Dual analog is the most requested feature psp fan have had since the system was released from both fans and developers, it has nothing to do with japan as it will get tons of support there.

Theres a whole other market out there. One which will sell more copies of a game called Angry Birds than Sony will ever sell PSPs. Now think of how many systems you'd need to sell to do that and compare it to the number of PSPs Sony has sold thus far.

I don't think its the only true challenger.
