So... how successful the PSP2'll be????

Bigger than the PSP in all markets 77 29.17%

Bigger than the PSP in some markets 21 7.95%

Slightly more successful than the PSP 19 7.20%

Same level of success 32 12.12%

Lower than the PSP 73 27.65%

Death at arrival 42 15.91%

Total:264

Remember this??

At this point everybody in gaming World knows about the PSP2, even if the system lacks of an official announcement and lineup the information and pics “leaked” points to a CES or E3 reveal next year.

So... Why bother with predictions about sales?. Well first the PSP2’ll arrive to a very different world, 5 years ago the PSP was one of the biggest and most anticipated systems of recent times, with multimedia functions with movies, music and (of course) games the PSP was considered as the first real challenger to Nintendo’s domain in the handheld market.

I have a UMD movie .... no really I have this one.

But some things didn’t work well, piracy was the first and biggest issue with the system and even today is a big problem, the multimedia functions didn’t set anything on fire and today are pretty much a distant memory. At the end the most import thing are the games and the PSP put a lot of big games (most notorious the Monster Hunter Franchise)

This thing has sold more in one year than some PSP games in all its history.

At this point the PSP2 has to face not only Nintendo’s next handheld, but also the increase competition from tables and phones. Sony could focus its next handheld for a very specific audience expecting a slow and steady increase, or could start with a bang focusing his system to a wider audience. One thing is sure a simple upgrade to the PSP won’t be enough, probably the system has some killer element (like the 3D effect in the 3DS) but at the time we don’t know it.

IDK, why don't we ask pachter?

I am very happy the next PSP is seen like when DS was coming out.

Actually the DS got a lot of attention from traditional media (newspapers, family shows on Tv, etc) it was the Internet boards, blogs and pages that saw the PSP as the big winner. The situation is different today, not even similar.

very succesfull based on the fact that it will be a phone

And you don't think the PSP2 will?

You do know people are talking about something Sony hasnt said a word about.

So if we accept the "PSP2 - phone" thing as a handheld system.... Are we going to accept Iphones and Smartphones in general?? Imagine The Source tracking the sales of those things.

Im sure people will call the PSP2 the 2nd best selling non Nintendo handheld.

Tease.

I still think the PSP2 sales will surprise some people. As it seems it will be really powerful and try to cater to the hardcore gamers instead of go to the wide market as iOS devices and 3DS. It could get a very loyal fanbase and pull up healthy sales and revenue for Sony.

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.
