Forums - Sales - Square Enix in trouble - time for Sony make a move?

Not happening, sony can't afford it, end of the story. I remember only some months ago a rumor saying apple would buy sony, this theory is less likely than that one. Beside is not a SE management problem. Can you name a JRPG which sold awesomely this generation (handhelds don't count)?I think FF13 is the only one which has passed the 1mln mark. If you compare this to the growth the other generes are having you can see where the problem lies. I don't think their idea of appealing the western audience more is bad. Basically is the only way a big company like SE can survive in the actual market.

I admit the thought of MS buying SE crept into my mind, I laughed out loud. If it does happen and vsXIII becomes X360 exclusive(Despite being possibly one of the worst moves that a company can make) it will cause SEVERE amounts of meltdowns on both this site AND WW. I think if vsXIII goes multiplat we should see an approximation of how bad it would have been if vsXIII became a 360 exclusive, which would be all the more amusing! I dont really follow FF games that much, does it even have the release date for PS3 set in stone yet?

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Did you even read the link you posted - they've cut profit projection but are still projecting a profitable year, this coming after the previous year being their record best for profit and revenue - ever.

Hardly in bad shape are they?

SE is a sinkhole for money now, they have nothing but their name to go on, they haven't made a good console game in over a decade, Sony would never buy it, Sony is far more interested in new talent (media molecule) when it comes to acquiring studios Sony is the best of the three by far, new talent is cheaper and far more worth it, spending ridicules amounts of money to buy basically just a brand name that sells to alot of people is more MSes thing to be honest, and if MS did buy SE I really don't think I'd care, probably be a similar result to MS buying RARE, which is now a pale shadow of what it once was

lol thats very much a lie.

Its not far from the truth, I can only name 2 myself, Kingdom Hearts 2 and Final Fantasy 13 (a good game but a mediocre Final Fantasy).

wow

final fantasy 10

final fantasy 12 (it was an 8/10)

final fantasy 13

`kingdom hearts 1 and 2(i bet more people actually like it than dislike it)

nier

star ocean 3 and 4

The last remnant ( a lil biggy but still good)

etc.

Those are all good or great games

I think he meant since Squaresoft became SE, so we don't count FF10, even then FF10 was very disappointing at the time.

FF12 I didn't like at all, FF13 I included.

Kingdom Hearts 1 is squaresoft, KH2 I included.

Star Ocean 3 and 4 were made by Tri-Ace, and 4 was awful.

The Last Remnant is mediocre, NIER is made by Cavia.

In my opinion they have only made 2 good games since becoming Square-Enix on home consoles (KH2, FF13), in your opinion they have made many more, which is great for you, I'm glad you can still enjoy most of their games.

This just proves how fickle the JRPG fanbase can be.

The only way Square can save themselves now is to just remake Final Fantasy 7 for the ps3 and KABoom... BIG sales.

2nd this.  But it'd be better if Square remade FF6-FF10 cause i love them all lol

FFX doesn't need to be remade.

agreed.  No need to remake x,x-II and XII.  Just do a collection on the PS3 and watch it fly off shelves.

SE is in trouble because of the mind set of more cash into a game equals more money. Which is absurd and false. You can't create the same things with better flash and expect the same sales climb again and again. Sooner or later every design path that did work will peak and then need to go down. SE has blindly followed that path and Sony is the flag carrier. As long as SE follows Sony rather than what saved them. SE will continue to have difficulties. Sony is their DOOM. SE needs to create broad appealing RPG's and not just cater to the FF Fanbase.

SE following Sony this gen? That's news to me.

Appealing to FF fanbase? news to me also.

Uhh...have you been watching Square Enix in the past few years? They're hardly catering to the FF Fanbase, and all their attempts at globalization have failed epicly. Not only that, but if anything, they're now following the ways of Western companies (whom are pissing money away).

I feel no sympathy towards Square-Enix these days, they've just been latching on their past successes and not doing much these days tbh. I still don't see anything better than The World Ends with You yet this gen from them, and that is a DS game.

I honestly doubt Sony will buy out Square Enix. The cost isn't justified.

Yoichi Wada needs to be canned. He's driving the company's business into the ground. Serves him right for trying to Westernize the company, when most Western publishers are pissing money away (seriously, Activision would be bleeding away so much cash right now if it weren't for Blizzard) while Japanese companies generally are making healthy profits.

Actvision is still bleeding even with Blizzard...

I thought they were barely profiting thanks to Blizzard?

I honestly want to understand how this is so...I mean, to me, it seems like they're TRYING to achieve global appeal, but they're doing it completely wrong.
