Had Square Enix not recently bought Eidos, nor had a mountain of other things had happened, this scenario might be somewhat plausible.

This is not the Squaresoft Sony bought shares in a decade ago.

For what it's worth there's about 20-30% of SE shares out there in Trust Funds and banks, Sony owns about 8% of the company, if they were to buy everything from Trust Funds and Banks, they would still only own 30-40% and, with the premium the stock would carry, I think it would cost them over 100 billion yen.

FFX doesn't need to be remade.

180 billion yen at my count based on outstanding shares.   Or about $2.1 billion USD.  Certainly not a price tag Sony can afford at this point.  You don't hermmorage several billion for a few years and then spend $2 billion.  Creditors and stock owners would go mad.

At this point i think  it would make more sense for MS to invest in the company, but a part of me wished Nintendo bought a substansial part of the company.

Why should they buy them?

The pepole who actually made SE what it is today are now in mistwalker and in monolyth.

Sony should just buy Mistwalker and get Matsuno.

I think MS or Ninty buying SE is more likely. One of them taking FF into 1st party exclusivity would be a big blow to Sony. It makes some sense for MS if they really want to keep going with Japan and grow Xbox there.
