So Kinect is a home platform now? 8th console generation start confirmed then?

Wii Fit sold very close to it and it wasn't released by X-mas or heavily bundled with the Wii on its first 6 weeks. I think Wii Fit wins. Sorry to burst your bubble, but if Kinect is a home platform, so is Wii Fit.

Uncomparable , you cannot compare new systems to new add ons.

I dont agree.

Kinect is a platform.

Lawl x) so I can play Kinect without X360. Yep tell me how?

Yes, Kinect is a platform. But not a console. It can be played without X360.

Be careful.  You might be accused of trolling.

Wow, some people.

Kinect is a platform.  The games are separate from standard 360 games, they REQUIRE Kinect to play their games and you CAN'T play Kinect games without a Kinect device.

Now instead of griping over what you feel or don't feel is considered a platform, how about you comment on the actual figures themselves?  He is free to make any comparison that he wishes and I think it seems some of you can't get past a single word.

Would you rather he put best "hardware" launch ever? Or even "gaming hardware" or "motion platform"?

Stop derailing a perfectly reasonable thread, it's against the rules.  Perhaps you can have a mod clear up these off topic, irrelevant posts?

OT:  That really is impressive.  It does show the haters that Kinect is moving plenty of software given its age and current userbase.  Great thread.

Let's get this straight. The Move/Kinect/Wii Remote are not platforms. Needing one to play a motion game on either the PS3/360/Wii does not make them a platform, and does not make them hardware. They are peripherals. They are motion devices that allow you to play motion games on your platform/hardware of choice.

Talking about Kinect sales is fine, so long as they aren't being flounted as anything that they aren't. Don't come in here pre-emptively crying "DERAILMENT!" when all that is being pointed out is that a comparison with console hardware is redundant.

You might want to look into the DS launch.  Kinect gets beaten rather easily.

yeah, probably.  thats one then.

any more?

im glad you actually looked into it and could only find the DS that beats it....

proves the point really.

It's not that I only fond DS, I started with DS, found it more had a more profound launch and stopped there.  Didn't think I needed to look further to prove Kinect wasn't the most successful platform launch when the first one I looked into beat it.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

So can a Wii Remote and Wii games be used and played without a Wii...

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

But Wii Remote is a controller. Not a platform.

Ugh...this thread was nitpicked to death.

Why am I surprised though?

But that aside, didn't the iPhone have a bigger 6 weeks (or one of them, at least)?

In any case, it'll be interesting to see how Kinect holds up once the holiday effect wears off.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

It's had a great launch, no doubt about it, but I have one nitpick with your approach.

Kinect launched both as a bundle - which I will accept as a new platform purchase - and standalone selling to existing customers - which I struggle with as those have to been seen as peripheral sales.

The last figure from  ioi quoted 40% bundles and 60% standalone so for me the correct way to view it is (taking a rounded 4 million figure):

sales as a platform (360/Kinect bundle) - 1,600,000 million

sales as a peripheral (Kinect only) - 2,400,000 million

I just don't think you can fairly count sales that only happened because there was an existing install base against Wii or any other console at launch with zero install base.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
