You're going to be waiting a while for a new top notch IP from Microsoft.

Really? I thought the next one would be Codename:Kingdoms

Microsoft is only publishing the game. It isn't in-house and I havent seen gameplay. Pick another title. Its about as exclusive as the original Mass Effect.

what if they own the ip rights?  Nobody knows that yet.  In which case it would be just as exclusive as resistance or ratchet and clank.

Ok....you're comparing a title from Crytek (who generally make games for themselves) to Insomniac who has since the PS1 era been making titles exclusively for Sony? They are third party, but are almost seen by the industry as an unofficial first party. Microsoft has never had that type of respect since entering the console industry.

thats cool, so sony's unofficial first party studio's are going multiplatform with their next game?  Thats some crazy logic man.  Insomniac going multiplatform just goes to show that historic trends don't mean anything when it comes to new ip.

The question is which game you're talking about? Thats when I'll answer. Bungie is multiplatform, Ensemble is no more. They bought the rights to Ninja Blade....and nothing came from that. All they've got left is the top new IP of the gen they started with which is gears. Insomniac might be going multiplat, but they've always been faithful to Sony. I guess being third party they just want to make more money now. They've made console defining titles for Sony for three generations. Theres no crazy logic about that.

the crazy logic is where you say crytek can't be exclusive.  Who is to say that microsoft can't own the ip to kingdoms (especially since it is being co-developed).

Since when did I even talk about Crytek being exclusive (Especially after all the crap with EA)? I never said Microsoft cannot own the IP to kingdoms. I stated it would be no more exclusive than the original Mass Effect. Good lord...lets hope PC doesn't get it either.

Microsoft doesn't own the Mass Effect IP . . .

You are very confusing. I thought the argument was that later Kingdoms games might come out for other consoles, since thats what happened after the original Mass Effect. If Microsoft owns the Kingdoms IP, then that would never happen in an eternity of time unless Microsoft sells it.

I know Microsoft doesnt own the IP to Mass Effect. They just published the first game. Thats what they do best...publish. They've been awesome at it since before they entered the gaming realm. Microsoft publishes better than Nintendo and Sony combined, but they couldn't create a first party force to save their life. This is where Nintendo and Sony are better.

Beyond agree. Microsoft honestly is a terrible first party dev . . . which is why they keep having to get third parties like Epic and Crytek to make games for them. Maybe thats why they made 343 games.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

If Microsoft knew how to choose talented companies and hire a stringent quality control like Sony and Nintendo, things would change. Because they don't things will stay the same.

Yup, they sure will.  Things will stay exactly on the track they currently are heading, and M$ will remain pleased with the current state of things.

Calling anything Insomniac's done as console defining is a bit of a stretch. Nobody thinks of an Insomniac game right off the bat when they think of any of the three Playstations.

Spyro the Dragon series on PS1 makes me think of Insomniac. Some of the best games of all time right there.

They probably are. As far as gaming is concerned Microsoft is the most out of touch company. Their best moves have been made finding out how Sony and Nintendo failed gamers and capitalizing on that. They did, but they dropped the ball....again.

Freelancer was excellent, Starlancer was more for me IMO.

Tease.

Insomniac isn't going completely multi-plat. Its only for one game.

LOL...until they see those sales on the 360...

Hmm...you do realize that Insomniac makes two games regularly, right? Ratchet and resistance. And they are looking forward to increasing their dev time to 3 years from two years, so that makes it even more difficult to make any more new ips than the one they are making right now.

So, which do you think will sell more? The new IP, or the resistance one or the ratchet one? My bets on the resistance one.

Wait...you think a multiplatform shooter by them will sell LESS than there next resistance game....lol...are you being serious?

Yes, I believe so. Nothing wrong in that because resistance is a game that's been around since 4 years, with both the iterations selling more than 1.5 million. Very few new IPs do that much. And they already have their hands full with ratchet and resistance.
