Well, as far as Tales go, unless you can play in Japanese, there is nothing. If you can play in Japanese I absolutely recomend both Vesperia and Graces (based on my experience with the Wii version).

Valkyria Chronicles, Nier and Yakuza too, all of them are good (while none of them a pure JRPG).

Star Ocean 4 is alright... especially if passing on the English dub and playing with the original voices. Battle system is the main fun point, story was wrapped up a bit retarded IMO, but quite bearable. Overall good battle system and mediocre everything else.

Eternal Sonata I found quite enjoyable, WKC not at all. Online is the main attraction there and it's a grindfest with little going for it.

I'm currently playing White Knight Chronicles, and have been having fun with it. I don't really get all the hate. The main part of the game is kind of a throw back to older JRPGs. Cliche story, true, but it's got a fast paced battle system and plenty of towns to explore with stores that sell weapons and armor (something that FF13 sorely missed.) I also actually liked Enchanted Arms (played with the Japanese VO.) Lost Oddyssey is decent if you have a 360. Tales of Vesperia is boring though IMO. Couldn't get into that one at all.

not really much story to Demon's souls.  It's a great game, but it takes a very minimalist approach to storytelling.  More of a dungeon looter like Diablo than an RPG really.  

Eternal Sonata is pretty terrible, battle system was ok, but story... holy crap (although WKC may still be worse)

As far as Star Ocean goes, I'd probably put it on par or worse than FFXIII.  

I'll just say it right now, JRPG's have been very disappointing this gen.  

Now, I know this is a WRPG, but have you played Dragon Age?

Not much choice, Valkyria Chronicles is very good for 1 play through.

Star Ocean 4 has a good battle system and if you've played the older SOs it's very similar which is how I like my series (*ugh* ff13*). But it has one of the worst VA's, "Acting", Camera controls/ Movement for a game. Also the bosses are really hard and your characters will die a lot.

Theres also Resonance of Fate which my friend Platinumed. He said it was a very grindy game but the battles were great, a bit of a steep learning curve though. He also enjoyed the story and some of the quests. That's all I know about Resonance of Fate.

White Knight Chronicles on the other hand, from what I've heard has a spectacular online component and if you prefer that over solo play then it might be a good pick up for you.

I recommend Yakuza 3 but it isn't a JRPG but more of an Action JRPG. It's a great game with awesome quests and story but if you don't like Japanese culture or brawl fights then you might not like it.

Disgaea 3 is well Disgaea... grindfest game but has a ton of humor and silly characters.

Haven't played Eternal Sonata as I'm waiting for my friend to finish it and I'll have a go.

Even though FF13 disappointed me; WKC, Resonance Of Fate, Star Ocean IV are all even worse than it but are still all playable. I say get a Wii, its going to have The Last Story and Xenoblade which look like they will be the best JRPG's this generation.

Get Nier, you'll love it!

Try to get Yakuza 3 someday, too!

the home consoles are lacking in JRPG this gen, i suggest you buy a PSP or DS or Both

well the production levels are different and well FF13 had a less grindy leveling up system but it wasn't the same for the weapons. FF13 also had a long development time and a lot of money in graphics and sounds. The battles were boring but not horrible. In those other games there were just things that are horrible but had something fun so they sort of balance out but not everyone has patience to let go of those horrible things.
