Forums - Sales - FFXIII 360 Japan Release - HW/SW Predictions

First Week 50-60K , over all close to 100K

Around the Network

X360 Software - Kinect Adventures and Final Fantasy XIII (Dec 16 release) likely topped 5,000 units for the week - although neither charted in the preliminary data. Interestingly, Final Fantasy XIII released Dec 17, 2009 in Japan for PS3, and Dec 16, 2010 for X360 in Japan. Square-Enix likely had promised Sony exactly one year of exclusivity - although that is just speculation. In any case, with Final Fantasy XIII opening to 1.4m or so in Japan, the game had the potential to be fairly big on X360. Instead, it looks like it sold less than 30,000 units on X360, and possibly fewer than 15,000 units. Expect X360 hardware sales to rise into the 5,000 to 9,000 unit range for the week on FFXIII & seasonality

less than 20,000 k for FF XIII in japan for X360 ,that 's a shame  since it is holiday season and it released the exact same date as ff 13 in ps3 last year

If FFXIII sells more than 100k in Japan I'll ask for a permanent ban.

Less than 30k sold, and maybe even less than 15k, according to the Japan preview. So rejoice.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Is it surprising the 360 version has opened to such small numbers? It's only 360 owners who don't own a PS3 and who are interested in final fantasy who are buying it, and how big a group is that? I suppose there are some diehard fans who want to own it for both consoles, so that might help push it over 50K lifetime. MS should have insisted on some bonus content, trouble is that would probably have required an extra DVD.

Final Fantasy XII Ultimate Hits re-release only sold 130K on PS2 Life To Date (so its first week was probably 80K) and it added a whole new job system. I would say even 30K for this game is lucky considering it had no additional content and it launches on a dead platform in Japan. They should have done a PS3 re-release too, it would've got over 100K then.

Lets wait for MC and Famitsu shall we, Sources numbers sometimes differ greatly.

Wow - judging by the preview I may have been way generous.  I guess I overestimated the potential number of dual console owners who might double dip.

I'm curious about how the politics of this might play forward.  With SE struggling a bit and the clear gap in PS3/360 sales WW I'd say Sony is very well positioned to demand at least Japanese timed exclusive from SE and may even be able to push for further concessions in the West.  Should help Sony push for Versus special treatment.

Depends how long SE take to even get around to another FF.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Well, it did have an ending chapter, I think. It also had an artwork booklet, if I'm not mistaken.

The ending chapter was in written form, it came as a separate book and has been leaked on to the internet 2 days ago. What I meant was unlike other re-releases there is no extra content within the game, maybe they have a more extravagant re-release planned for PS3 next year. Either way I think this release of the game shows how greedy they have become, its basically been free money for them, even if it did 30K or 15K.
