Why will the 200$ price point affect sales so massively? It only gave a temporary, debatable boost to Wii last year. Besides, looking at its manufacturing costs, it may even sell for 50$ when all's said and done with. It'll pretty much never stop selling then.


I loled at this XD if you read my whole post you would see the part about bluray player (also 3d player). Blu-ray is quickly becoming the main form home video.

Also the ps3 sales never dropped from its last price drop. literally since it got it it tits been trashing its last year sales. it got it back in September XD Also a nintendo home console hasnt sold continually for a long time agter its successor has been released in your life time XD in fact sony pretty much exclusivly hold the crown for that. PS2 is in its 11th year and still selling XD. Also the wii will never reach $50. literally. never XD

Low price point will help, but PS3 will never get there. Or at least not early enough to get any sales. In MEAA, only 99$ or below will have an effect. And, looking at PS3 manufacturing costs, it is almost impossible for PS3 to hit such a price point in time.

By the way, mind showing me data about how much the NES sold after the SNES? The SNES after the N64? Just for comparison. Anyway, Playstations have had legs for three main reasons, complete and utter domination, lots of exclusive third party support and legs due to low price point in MEAA. None of those apply here.

For your last point, it's debatable, isn't it? Did it sell because of the price cut or the redesign? Will a further price cut do the same?

if the Wii hits $50 i will get my cat one too!

I'm serious. Wiis were being produced for 90$ in April last year. By 2012 or so, Wiis selling $50 shouldn't be too hard.

you clearly have no idea about the true strength of ps3

and you are judging that on?  xbox and gamecube were both failed consoles for the most part, when their successors came out they outright stopped their support for those consoles, causing them to die.  If they continued to support them like Sony did, there is no reason for them to die out a short time after their successor.  Especially the wii.  The market leader of the generation isn't going to just fade away.  

There is nothing about the ps3 that would make it any different from the other consoles as far as how long it could sell past the time the new systems come out.  It all boils down to company strategies, and with both Nintendo and Microsoft echoing sony about saying this generation is going to last longer than previous gens, those historical comparisons mean jack squat.

I think Sony will come out of the gate with Blockbuster exclusives using their First Party.

Either way, Sony themselves said they would be the last to the market.

In terms of "beating" others. It's going to be a bit more complex than that. I don't think Sony will compare the PS4 too nextbox and Wii2. Did MS care that the PS2 had over 100mil consoles sold and they only had around 10mil. No, because they are on different time frames. 

That's a little far fetched considering the 360 and PS2 were in different gens. However I do think that the PS4's launch will be so great that it'll make the 720 seem 1/2 gen weaker. and with the first party to get the games going, 3rd party will eventually jump on board to lead design on PS4 instead of 720. (like devs did with 360 and PS2). Then nearly all games will look and play better on the PS4. and well... PS4 will be in a good position.

I think that sony are going to use every trump card they have for the PS4. Playstation is arguable the most powerful brand in gaming. Sony just need to use it write.

Thats a Fanboys fantasy, PS3 showed all its power, Sony has ton of blockbuster( not blockbuster sales though) and look wheres at! you are underestimating the competition.

Is Sony willing to abandon the PS3 the way MS abandoned the original Xbox?  If not, then we won't see a PS4 until the others make their move.  My bet is that they're not.
