Sony responds to NPD data

This holiday season PlayStation celebrates, along with the video game industry, as NPD reports a 9% year over year industry increase in overall dollar sales. The early blockbuster success of PlayStation Move has undoubtedly helped to pave the way for us as we head into 2011. The library of hard core and social gamer titles currently on the store shelves (EyePet, Get Fit with Mel B, Gran Turismo 5, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, SingStar Dance) as well those to come (Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, LittleBigPlanet 2, Twisted Metal, Killzone 3) will only continue to solidify our place in the living room. In fact, the strength of Move’s technology infrastructure in allowing our developers to make already released titles Move compatible, will help broaden the net of their existing PS3 titles, bringing them to life even further with PlayStation Move. We’re pleased that consumers continue to look to PlayStation for innovative and unique entertainment experiences. As we head into the new year, with almost every PlayStation Move sku in short supply and on allocation, I think we will continue to see a steady surge of positive growth for our home entertainment offerings simply because customers looking for strong product value, quality entertainment offerings, depth in gaming and content (original programming, NetFlix, Hulu Plus, NHL, MLB), will choose PlayStation.nal programming, NetFlix, Hulu Plus, NHL, MLB), will choose PlayStation.

Well we were expecting the spin, didn't really expect that response, it's like here's one positive number we can display and now a lot of promotion and advertising for their future titles lol

To make things worse, that first figure, was probably achieved without the help of Sony ...

Sony should have avoided saying anything rather then posting this.  Sony can't take anything positive out of this month.  They were more then doubled by both 360 and Wii.  And they were significantly down year-over-year...

VGC adjustment incoming...  Wii and 360 up by 200 and 300k...  Sony down 100k...

.... *speechless*

The 360 has had a monster year.  Microsoft has done such a great job setting this up that I find myself rooting for it.

The Wii once again casts a 'silence' spell on all the doubters, haters, and doomsayers - they don't have much to say now.

The PS3...uhmmm...

The DS question is 'how high can it go?'  We're well beyond the 'when will it pass the PS2?' question.

Where are the PSP numbers?

laughing out loud

thats because its been available for under $299 for over 3 years and 3 months now i cant tell you how long the ps3 has been under $299 but i will soon, even if you look at the sales deals on BF week i dont believe you could get a PS3 for under $299

the last NPD november the 360 was available for a price of $299 or greater it did 500k so nothings wrong with PS3s numbers

dont think these numbers can warrant "ps3s is doomed posts" with the above price data i mentioned vgc didnt have it that far off to begin with anyway, the real story here is the success of treyarchs COD BO and how much it was undertracked 8.4 to like 6.7?

Exactly, yet despite that it's posting it's best figures ... out of the 3 holidays it's been $299, do you get my post now BHR?

I don't see anyone say "PS3 is doomed"

Black Ops is a success, but judging by all the figures MS released, (and Nintendo) they're both BIG successes this November as well.

Were you not saying PS3 was gonna be adjusted after NPD? You got your wish it seems.

lmao... that's just a damn shame right there!

wow amazing 360 sales they know what they are doing

PS3 is so bad in comparison to its rivals in the USA,you'd think they'd offer better BF deals and question sony america and the kevin butler campaign, time for a change

I never thought the Kevin Butler campaign was good. He came across as a smug asshat.

Queue the Move comercial from the future video.  I always knew that video would come back to haunt them...

That was a "response"???

NPD: December 2010

Top PlayStation Highlights
- PS3 hardware sales continue to increase month over month (up 112%)
- PS3 had a 5% increase in year-to-date sales in November
- Three PS3 games ranked in the top ten software skus for the month, including Call of Duty: Black Opps, Assassin's Creed:Brotherhood, Gran Turismo 5

That doesn't make any sense, it's down 25%.

It's down 25% comparing November 2010 with November 2009. But it's up 5% when you compare Jan-Nov 2010 with the same period of 2009.

PS3 never really had a chance this generation, it lost pretty much everything software wise to Xbox, and now its biggest exlusive franchises are GT5 which was an absolute bomb, Uncharted which sells well but Halo 3 is gonna nearly outsell the Uncharted trilogy and Little Big Planet for gods sake.

Theyve just lost out now, Xbox is already dominate in the two main markets US and UK, come next generation the Xbox 3 is gonna take over the rest of Europe and the Sony will become the next Sega.

Yeah, hence the Year-to-date. Will likely be down, no actually it WILL be down when Dec sales come in, so not sure why they have chosen to highlight that fact ....
