Forums - Sales - 32.4M Consoles sold in UK this gen - Chart Track

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-12-08-total-uk-console-installed-base-is

How many consoles from this generation have now been sold around the UK? Answer: 32.4 million.

That covers everything from PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 to DS and PSP. The number was found buried within a meaty GAME financial paper.

Chart-Track, data-tracker and publisher of the results, didn't break down the number by platform. But we can assume that Nintendo's consoles dominate the pile, Xbox 360 is sandwiched somewhere in the middle and Sony's machines snap at heels from the rear.

The new total (based on sales ending 4th December 2011) signifies a 5.2 million bump on last year's lump sum. That's the slowest growth for a couple of years, but with Kinect and Move out and 3DS on the horizon, 2011 could set about rectifying that. Similarly, if Nintendo chose to dock the price of Wii, sales may once more shoot through the roof.

Vgchartz has it as

Wii - 7.35m

PS3 - 3.5m

360 - 5.6m

PSP - 3.88m

DS - 11.98m

Total = 32.31m

Pretty damn close, well done VGC :)

I'd be curious to see how that stacks up against Japan. Especially with home consoles.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

16.5 (UK) VS 18.2 (Japan)

In Japan DS alone is at 31.5 million. However the original report is here: http://www.mcvuk.com/news/42153/UK-console-installed-base-exceeds-32m .

"32.4m current generation game consoles are now in circulation in the UK, according to Gfk Chart-Track.

That means retail has sold 5.2m DS, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and PSP consoles this year.

However, that's a 26 per cent slowdown in hardware sales compared to 2009. For the same year-to-date period in 2009, 7.2m games consoles had been sold.

It's important the note that although there has been a variety of new bundles and new hardware configurations this year – including the DSi XL and Xbox 360 S – there's been no big price drop on any of the leading hardware."

Underlined: this year sales, it seems DS > Wii > PS3 > X360 > PSP (that's the way multiplat sales are reported).

God you'll stoop to anything, PS3 and Wii are not ahead of 360 this year in UK.

If we count home consoles only it's pretty close. 16.5 million in UK vs. 18.2 million in Japan. If we include handhelds also it's completely different situation though. DS alone has almost sold more than all current gen consoles combined in UK (31.7 million vs 32.4 million) and then we have also PSP that has sold 16 million in Japan.
