No new Micro machines???!!! Why not??!!!

Actually, when I think about it, Micro machines with motion controls and a bird perspective (not like in the DS version) could actually be a really funny game!

Really? So why do they have to sell such a funny franchise exactly to the most crappy publisher out there?

Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising: Military simulator meets first person shooter in a fictitious conflict with the potential to erupt onto a global scale. (Developer: Codemasters Studios – PLAYSTATION 3 system, Xbox 360, Games for Windows – TBD)

I did play the original Operation Flashpoint and the game did have a few gems, example I actually spent 2 hours running across the map because I couldn't find where I had parked the vehicle... sure I could of restarted but wheres the fun in that?

Definitely good news, though it depends on how the realism stacks up against Armed Assault.

Keep in mind the original OFP was not a casual game in any sense of the word. It was realistic and extremely unforgiving, enough to be turned into VBS1 ( http://www.virtualbattlespace.com/ ). It is a hardcore simulation game. OFP, Armed Assault, and (maybe) OFP 2 are the only ones on the market.

*No health bars, if you get shot in the leg, I hope you like crawling. Shot in the arm? Good luck aiming. Chest or head? Dead.

*No ammo pickups. What you go in with is all you have except when you scrounge off the dead.

*No hitscan weapons. Want to be a sniper? Enjoy actually having to manually range your scope, taking bullet drop, elevation, and flight time into account.

*No ret in the middle of the screen. Iron sights only.

*No running and shooting at the same time, unless you like shooting the ground 5 feet in front of you.

*Any ground or air vehicle you can think of, which definitely have their disadvantages.

*Giant 10km by 10km maps (later ones were much bigger) with towns, forests, beaches. So no set maps to memorize and exploit.

*Engagements take place between 50-500 yards usually. You're shooting at pixels and the level of strategy is far beyond what any FPS has to offer.

*No balance issues. Who needs weapon balance when 1 bullet kills?

Also, one of the biggest strengths of OFP was its mods. Any vehicle, any era, any army, any weapon that fired projectiles and chances are someone made it for OFP. Add in all of that with a mission editor that let you do literally anything you could think of very easily (as in anyone could make a mission) and it's no mystery why OFP had a very strong following for over 5 years until it was replaced with Armed Assault.

To this day no other FPS even comes close to the depth, scope, and realism of OFP--besides Armed Assault.

So for us hardcore realism/simulation junkies who had to wait 5+ years for Armed Assault, getting nothing but cartoon shooters in between, having this coming out soon is really exciting news.

It was one of those games that abused you endlessly, but once you learned how to think tactically and realistically in a unit instead of like Rambo, the rewards and feeling of accomplishment were far beyond any FPS could offer. The feeling of tension when bullets are whizzing around you, impacting in front of you just isn't in any other game. No twitch skills needed, just smarts and tactics.

So, I'm really looking forward to OFP 2. This and ArmA are the 2 most exciting releases in 5 years for me

Turning Point seems interesting at face value but I'll hold judgment till I know more, it could end up just another FPS...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

No, I was wrong. Certain games of the series were published by different companies in other regions though. Codemasters still owns the franchise.

Man, one time I don't doublecheck what I post and then it turns out to be dead wrong.

Phew... Well, but if the next games turn out like Micro Machines on the DS, it wouldn't matter anyway. The N64 version on the other hand has been absolutely great, but that is ages ago already.
