Forums - Gaming - 360 for the win, says retail UK

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=177573

When somebody asks you who's going to win the current console war, the last thing you'd expect to hear is Microsoft. Since the domination of Wii over the last year, you can't even say 360 is "currently" winning the console war. But in three or fours years time? We're all fans of Microsoft's console here but, after a quick meeting of minds, we honestly can't see it keeping pace with PS3 in the long run.

So it comes as a bit of a surprise when a poll of UK retailers (carried out by MCV) tips 360 for the win:

Which format will win the next generation battle?

Xbox 360 - 49%
PS3 - 35%
Wii - 16%

An MCV pundit then adds: "Another 'win' for Microsoft in MCV's Annual Retail Survey, with independent games retailers currently predicting that the Xbox 360 will triumph in the current format battle."

Make of that what you will. More questions to mull over here.

Weird seeing the Wii so low.

I hope the 360 wins because it deserves to, but lets please not start quoting surveys of retailers and consumers that base outcomes on opinions rather than sales.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

This is probably because of the 360 software sales. If you are a retailers, you look at what sell the most of the three and 360 probably sell the most for them.

My local store, the 360 area is much larger than the wii and PS3 simply because they sell a lot more.

This good news for the xbox if t happens, but not suprising considering it is ms strongest market outside Na, they need to do more  in the non-english speaking countries

16% for the Wii ? The leader which is selling as much as 360 and PS3 combined there ?
I wonder if these retailers are serious.

You nailed it. This survey just means retailers make more money off of the 360 and accessories than they do from other consoles.

I seriously doubt that the 360 will win this 'war' with the Wii selling at the current rate and also the PS3, which is still more expensive and has less games selling just as strongly. I think that if anything the 360 will be last this generation, with the Wii being 1st and the PS3 being 2nd!

In terms of MS deserving to win this generation, that is not true as the whole RROD problem makes them, if anything, not deserve to win!

You're right, but at the same time, that's a relevant data. IS winning just about having the larger installed base or having a large install base AND a strong tie ratio ?

For me, the more interesting is not even MS 1st,
it is the Wii 3rd !!!!!!!!!

you could have put as title :

"Wii losing the console war ?"

I mean, seriously, on the casual market, the Wii domination is incredible. It is as if the Wii is alone.
At the opposite, the PS3/Xbox360 are still fighting for the hardcore market.

I dont even mention the huge amount of money Nintendo is getting sealing 250$ a soooo dated (= cheap to produce) hardware ...

Time to Work !

I thought that the retailers made least money with PS3 , specially after the massive price drops?
