Driving a car above 200mph shouldn't be easy, and to do a perfect lap can be reaaaaaaaly hard, if you drive in real life you now how hard is to do the things you try in GT5, and it's "so life like"...

But newcomers will love the Assists, altought for the Challenges you will have to turn them down as is impossible to beat those times with assists (they make the car slower and harder to drift, because prevent whell spin and sliding).

With time and patience you'll honey your skills and maybe like it.

I know that driving a car at 200mph shouldn't be easy. I'm well aware. I haven't raced any of the super cars in GT5, and I'm not saying GT5 isn't doing a good job of simulating the real world. However, driving my crap honda 100mph I shold be able to break it down to 40 or so and make a corner without too much trouble since I can in real life. Nor was I arguing that I should be able to make a perfect lap. However, I should be able to make a decent lap, but it takes me forever to get it down in GT5. I think my biggest problem with the most realistic racing sims is that I don't feel the car. Without feeling the car I have no sense of speed and from there everything goes downhill.

Do you use a wheel? The force feedback in gt5 feels glorius, tells you everything you need through your hands.

I preffer arcade racers, so i think... NFS Hot pursuit for me.

I seriously couldn't justify buying a wheel for a demo Like I said earlier, I'm not huge into racing sims so I can never seem to justify spending so much on a controller that won't get a lot of use. I had a racing wheel well over a decade ago if that means anything I'm sure if I got a good setup I could play a lot better.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

Simulation? I would say GT5.

Arcadey? I absolutely loved Split/Second.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I'm no car fan at all and I only like a few numbers of racers.

Here's my hate list:

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue

Gran Turismo 5 (probably since I didn't really like the racing in prologue)

Burnout Paradise

Split/Second

WipEOut HD

Dirt

Dirt 2

GRID

Here's my approval list:

Motorstorm (but the game below is vastly superior)

Motorstorm Pacific Rift

I wouldn't wait for Motorstorm Apocalyps, which people are recommending. It doesn't look that great too me and I'm a Motorstorm fan.

I wouldn't have got mine if it wasn't on offer, but i'm glad i did. Makes such a big difference, but in saying that i still enjoy GT with a controller, just way more with my wheel. I mean you feel the back end kick out and you react immediately. Makes drifting even more fun too.

I always liked driving games but I like them so much more with a wheel. More than I thought I would.

If I play an arcade racer while waiting for movie at the cinema, I feel dissapointed with it. So it was worth it for me.

Edit: @non-gravity

Lol man you'd never know you're from bycicle territory

Sim racers don't really get me pumped like games like Burnout and Motorstorm. Personally, Paradise was one of my favourite racers, and one of my actual favourite games of the PS3.

GT5 due to its sheer amount of content is an easy decision if you only buy one racer this gen. NFS has a new iteration every year so you better wait. Burnout is cool and fun but not as addictive as Gt5.

btw, why not get a dfgt at least. once you have a driving wheel, with GT5 i bet you will become a fan  :D

i think you really need a driving wheel. i never played GT5 with DS3, so i don't know. But with the driving wheel (my dfp), i can feel the car. the ff in gt5 is quite good.

also what honda model do you drive in real life, does the car have assists on. did you turn on the same assists in GT5? i tired once to turn off abs completely and race with my turned civic type-r, it is much harder to control as i didn't take time to practice the threshold braking. but again, you will need driving wheel to feel it.

Uh... why the qualifier?  I would also declare GT5 the best kart racer on PS3.  :P

(I finally played the kart racing specials today, and man are they fun!)
