Forums - General - Spanish woman claims Sun as her property

No more free sunlight. The Sun has been privatized and the owner, a 49-year-old Spanish woman, claims she has registered the star as her property at a notary.

Angeles Duran, who lives in the Spanish region of Galicia, only announced the news to the online edition of El Mundo daily on Friday, AFP reports, although she took the step back in September. The idea crossed her mind after reading about an American man who had registered his ownership of the Moon and the Solar system.

Under international law no country may claim ownership of a planet or a star, but there are no legal obstacles for individuals – a fact Duran, who says she is “no stupid” and has good knowledge of law, is perfectly aware of.

Of course any other person could have claimed ownership. She realizes that in today’s society it is ideas that matter. No one had the idea before, or at least, did not push for it, so first come, first served.  And the serving she wants is tax revenue for using the Sun.

Does she intend to charge her fellow Spanish citizens a fee, or the global population? Well, Duran has no exact plan yet. The woman, though, is not as selfish as you may at first think. She intends to spend the money on pensions, research and ending world hunger – leaving just ten per cent of the cash for herself.

Fine. She's now liable for everyone's skin cancer.

She's gonna get sued a lot from all the people getting sun burned and such.

Fine, I'll send my human sacrifices to her from now on.

That is hilarious does she actually own it. lol

It doesnt seem she thought this idea out to well.  The minute she starts collecting money for "owning it" she is going to get sued for every dime she makes.

Well, now seems like a good time to call an attorney and get the ball rolling on my claim of the moon. I'm pretty sure since it's responisble for the tide everyone who uses a wave will owe me money. Espeically the movie "The Perfect Storm" which starred a giant wave. =P

that lady is nothing but a troll lol

in other news.  stupidity still rampant on earth.

How does she intend to get money out of it ?

Noone would pay her money.

This women is so humble she would leave just 10 Percent of the money for her self !

Lets say this stupid idea would work somehow. The Sun is the greatest asset in this solar system. It produces much more energy per second then the whole humankind has ever used. If we would give it a value like say KW/H is 1 Cent then the sun is worth billions quadrillions.

If she would somehow get the legal right to make people pay taxes for the suns use she would earn an insane amount of money ten percent of that is still insane and what did she actually do for it ?

BTW imo its not worth writing about it. Next person claims he owns the space the solar system will cross in the next 100 years so everybody has to pay rent for living on planet earth. Or someone claims the milkyway is his property and therefor wants money if people look at the sky by night.
