PS3 Generates 40% of Software Sales in the Middle East

The video game market in the Middle East is a growing medium but it’s been plagued heavily by piracy. With the largest install base in the region, 5.2 million, it’s estimated that  99% of software on the PS2 is pirated. Even though almost every format suffers from piracy in the Middle East, it’s the PS3 that’s become the ray of hope in the region.

The PS3 is the only piece of hardware that’s piracy-free and thus has become the single largest source of software sales revenue in the region.

Reports indicate that the PS3 is responsible for 40% of software sales in the Middle East with  ”key” titles on the system selling 5x more than they do on Microsoft’s XBox 360.

Also with the introduction of the SLIM last year the PS3 currently outsells the 360 3:1.

As a whole, software sales in the Middle East are on the increase across all platforms except the PS2 and PC.

Like most of the world the region is still recovering from the recession but the reported 10% year-to-date increase in hardware and software sales show signs of an improving market.

PSP should be 1.5m. It was late last night and I was tired, hope Sony doesn't cut my bonus for this.

More evidence that Sony is pulling all the right long-term moves to dominate in future generations. I would love to see the numbers for Latin America, South America and India.

The US, Canada, Japan, and Europe are losing influence due to increasingly older populations, stagnant economies with 10% unemployment as the new norm for decades ahead, and oversaturation. They will still matter, but not as much as the up and comers such as the Middle East, Latin America, South America, and India.

I would include China, but I do believe China still has a nationwide ban on home consoles. If China ever removed that ban, then who wins in China would be the leader for each generation.

Sony owns pretty much all of the developing countries markets its one of the reasons why VG chartz always undertracks ps3 100 small markets adds up, VG pretends they don't exist rather then just taking an guess (aka estimate) and it's not like they haven't already admitted all the numbers are more or less guesswork, so why are the so afraid to give ps3 numbers it probably has, are they not allowed to go over or something, they were over on 360 tons of times anyways yeah

Some weird looking gamers in that pic :s

Yup, the PlayStation brand is powerful here.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
