You seem to forget that CGI-Quality prefers the PS1 over the PS2 even though the latter can play all games of the former, so backwards compability certainly isn't part of the reasoning.

Well of course there are an unlimited amount of reasons why CGI can like the PS3, I mean what is there not to like :P

It's not so much that the PS3 is that good, rather it's that the PS2 sucks. Consider that CGI-Quality's favorite PS3 game is Heavy Rain and remember Quantic Dreams' PS2 game Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit. The game was quite disappointing because the weak PS2 hardware couldn't do David Cage's vision justice, so that's a good and logical reason to consider the PS3 a vastly superior console.

Well it technically is vastly superior in every way except the software, I mean the PS3's got it's amazing games but nothing like the PS2, I don't think any console can compare to the PS2 library.

While the PS2's library is unmatched on sheer software amount, I personally find the PS3's library to be better. PS2 still deserves the praise it gets, but unlike many, it's my least favorite PlayStation.

So far the PS1 is my favorite PlayStation console.  It's going to be hard to top that for me.  But I do think the PS3 has a really good first party showing and it has been SCE WWS's best generation so far.

Beating the PS2 is going to be a tall order unless this does turn out to be a really long generation.  However, I think beating the PS1 is very possible.  I actually predict close to 100m for both the 360 and PS3.  I think all consoles, including the Wii, will not reach PS2 numbers.  The DS will, but that's a handheld.  I don't think there will be a complete utter victory for any fanboy side for all aspects - game line up, sales, profit, etc.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

I agree.  Also, I'm going to struggle to sell as many records as the Eagles.  Unfortunately, todays' market dynamics are a bit different and there's more competition, so it'll be close.

Lol, he makes it sound like it's actually gonna be close. Please.. The PS3 is in its FOURTH year and currently sits well over 100 million behind the PS2, with far more competition than the PS2 had, and the less successful Blu Ray as its selling point rather than DVD. Even outselling PS1 at this point would be nearly impossible. I tink a 75 million lifetime for PS3 is a pretty reasonable prediction. In fact, I think it's being generous.

Obviously the PS3 would struggle to top the PS2. PS2 was the best selling home console ever! It's just like when an artist releases an album that explodes worldwide, it becomes really difficult to top it.

That being said the PS3 is doing amazingly well considering how strange this generation is (seriously, Wii in first place is a slap in the face of true gamers), how good the competitor is doing (X360) and how badly the PS3 started out the console race.

Umm a true gamer enjoys video games, and Nintendo's games are among the best in the world. No true gamer would ignore the Wii. A true gamer in my opinion owns all three consoles and plays games from all three first parties. Its rather insulting to say that fans of the most successful and oldest gaming company somehow aren't gamers.

Mybe they thought they were talking about PS1? Especially the dude who said PS3 can definately do it. I mean 10 year strategy, with another $100 price cut could see it sell another 60 million, if the planets and stars allign right for the next 5 years.

But ~150 million? Wow even saying it would struggle implies it's in the realms of possibility, or that it will come close. While not rising to the level of delusional certainly it is in the realms of wishful optimism.

So I'm not a true gamer?  I'm almost offended that I am considered a 'false' gamer.  Please tell me your reasoning for this statement.

On topic, the PS3 won't.  I don't even think the Wii will outsell the PS2.  The DS will in a short time, but none of the home consoles will.

Who else finds it ironic that a lot of people get really defensive when someone bring up the question about the Wii outselling the PS2, but at the same time don't rule out that the PS3 might outsell the PS2.

It's impossible.

It won´t even come close...of all the current gen systems, only the DS will manage that. The PS2 will continue to be the best selling home console ever.

if blu-ray remains the leading HD format for a long time then the ps3 will become the most economical home entertainment device if its still selling alongside the ps4. i dont see why anyone wont want to own one.
