awesome but old news

It was posted like a few hours ago. If its old news why is Kotaku only reporting it now? I never heard of it till now. Do you have any articles about it from the past?

i made a thread about it when Sony patented it.

and this could be very well implemented in the PS3 as it uses available 3D TV Tech.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

@OP

No they're saying it's old news because it is.

I saw a video about these guys who got Halo 3 to run in this way. It was a bit expensive to set up at the time because it wasn't mass market yet. They said the technology was already out there. Now, my intention was to post a link, but funnily enough all google gives me is how Sony has pattented stereoscopic screen sharing.

But even though it's not new to most of us, it most certainly is very exciting.

Imagine:

2vs2 player fps/tps game. Each team shares a split screen but can't see what the other's are doing. This will be foeking amazing.

Or, I can play God of War 4 (OH YES PLEASE) while my girlfriend watches something...

This technology needs to be pushed, because imho it's much exciting (for gamers) than 3D TV.

The only downside is that it will be a power-hungry affair. But then again, PS4 won't have a problem with managing 2 screens @1080P and 60fps will it?

Personally, the more interesting application of this technology is an extension of what I think the most interesting application of HD resolutions are ... Many more people being able to play locally at the same time.

One of the things that I am most disapointed with on the HD consoles is that they don't support 6 player split screen games; after all, with modern widescreen 1080p TVs you can split the screen 6 ways and give people a larger screen with more pixels than most of the TVs many of us grew up playing games on.

By using 3D televisions in this way, it is theoritically possible to allow for games to have up 12 player split screen local multiplayer. If/when you combine this with online or lan multiplayer you can produce a social gaming experience that is difficult to replicate.

Its a shame Samsung put a stop on DLP TVs. In 2008, DLP tech was rocking 3D already and had this already implemented.

I bought a 3D TV just for the GT5 release and I LOVE it. Super Stardust is an amazing game once again, lol. If Sony can find ways to milk out its technology even further that would be amazing.

The patent for this was posted like a month or two ago. It's a brilliant idea!!!

Yeah sure, as if 3D TV's aren't expensive enough just yet. XD

Also, I'm 99% sure this will require goggles, again.

There was a thread about the patent by SONY at least a month ago and then one more thread after that. It's not new news, Joelcool7. I think how it's being brought up so much and SONY's push for 3D, they will definitly have to push to implementing this in PS4 games simply because of how much attention it's getting for just a patent.
