Depends on how much you want to spend.

Here is a nice one for the price. 320GB for just $50. I had this same one in my old MGS4 PS3 and loved it.

Any 2.5" Notebook HDD will do I have a 500GB Samsung Spinpoint in my Original 60GB Japanese  Lunch model. Just make shore to only use a 5400RPM 2.5" HDD because of compatibility problems with 72000RPM ones

Japanese Pop Culture Otaku

£49.99 (5400 rpm, 8mb cache)

£53.99 (7200 rpm, 16mb cache)

Both are free delivery, I've had the 7200 rpm hdd in my ps3 for two years not a single problem, no issues with heat or compatibility problems, but you might get one if you install one with 72000 rpm though.

ok thanks guys,

price doesn't matter father xmas is buying it and he only buys the best

model doesn't make a difference i guess but why do 7200rpm have problems

i have a 500Gb 7200rpm Seagate in my 60gb launch model and rocks... PS3 have no issues with 7200rpm HDDs... Sony didn't support 7200rpm HDDs in the beginning because they cause more heat than 5400rpm but that was back in 2006. now a days 7200rpm HDDs have the same heat production as 5400rpm ones so if you bought the same model as me or the Western Digital version of 7200rpm 500gbs you are good to go...

They don't have problems, its a legacy from day's gone by when 7200rpm produced more heat from the power needed for the spin startup, most of the new one's have a slower initial startup so less vibration and less heat produced, and you usually always get a larger cache on the 7200rpm.

If you want to play it 100% safe go with a 5400, but personally I'd go with a good 7200 which I think gives a slightly better performance even if its just a placebo effect.

Or just lazy haha, I've been abusing my holiday's from work so I've had a few extended weekends, intended to use them in a constructive manner but couldn't be arsed so I'm just catching up on my backlog. I must admit I've become more of a trophy slag recently  constantly pushing the PS button to see which trophy I should go for next, sad but so addictive.
