don't they only ship the number of based on what retailers order?  If so, then the game has decent enough demand.  Also, I don't think it will be fair to say whether or not they overshipped until after the Christmas shopping season is over.

The retailers can make mistakes too and sometimes if there its a good enough discount they order more to earn that discount. They tought "mmm, its a well known franchise, with a gameplay similar to God of War, it will sell A LOT!".

Did someone say discount?

So then it's already the 2nd best selling (er, shipping) Castlevania game.  Of course it's also the first day-and-date multiplatform CV afaik, every previous game launched on just one system (and then got ported if it went mult).

We really need to update our "classic" game numbers. I remember watching the gametrailers retrospective and I recall Circle of the Moon was the best selling Castlevania game to date at 1 million copies sold, but we don't list that on VGChartz.

Anyways this is good news if they can sell through the amount of copies and ship more next year, perhaps topping Circle of the Moon. I just wonder how big their budget was for the game.

It's just that simple.

Konami announced today that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has shipped one million units in the U.S. and Europe. Konami president Shinji Hirano said the company is "pleased at the positive response we've seen toward Castlevania: Lords of Shadow globally." He also praised developer MercurySteam:

"The remarkable sales achieved in such a short time are a true testament of the work and dedication that went into this project, and we're very grateful to have partnered with such fine talent in the rebirth of one of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.'s most successful franchises."

Does one million shipped equal one million sales, though? And if not, is that actually remarkable? Personally, I hope so, because this game deserves some consumer love.

To the publisher a million shipped equals one million sales since that's when he gets his money. The sold to customers number is obviously lower but let's hope they do get sold soon, it's a really great game!

It's over a million actually, and it did 500k in the US alone before it's budget reprint (who knows how much it did total).

And honestly, I don't think LoS will ship too much more.  NPD had it somewhere under 225k for Oct, it did just 30k in the UK according to Charttrack... seems like another case of massive upfront overshipping, which has become something of a theme for HD multiplatform games recently.

If it means anything, GameStop still sells new copies for $59.99

Yeap and I haven't seen any black friday deals yet.

Well Silent Hill shattered Memories is just dropping to $20 now, so Konami will probably hold out as long as they can before a price drop on it. Though I did grab LOI on the PS2 a month after release for $20.

I doubt the game will sell 1 million. Just a heads up, Gamestop will be sellin the game for $30 on cyber monday.
