Forums - Gaming - Microsoft: There will be a Halo Movie. New info.

Doesn't surprise me, thing is now is the do or die time, Reach has been a huge success, it's going to be the final Bungie Halo, so who knows how the future popularity of the series going to go, nows the time to strike really, if you can make a successful Halo movie series then you have more than just the game series to carry the IP.

Halo Hbo mini series makes sense, movie woudl lack story unless its a long trilogy.

Doesn't surprise me either, since I have read roumours about it before halo reach came out.

I could only hope

Eh...

I played Halo very much for the gameplay. The characters always seemed rather shallow to me, especially emotionally so I find it hard to get excited for it. It'd be interesting to see Jackson do it though, because then it'd at least be grandiose =P

Why dont Microsoft create there own Studio just for Halo. They would have enough money to fund such an project. and an series wouldn't be that great.

But an movie on the first game is where to start. 3 hours max but in that time you can get all the great set pieces needed for such an movie. and it would be an smash.

I liked the first halo, tho i never past the last mission its an great story.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I thought about this before.

They should create a partnership with universal or Warner Brothers IMO. MS pays the porduction costs, Universal produces the movie, MS will get 90% of the money / Universal gets 10%. Win/Win.

Once they realise this works for both sides, it will be much easier for future projects.
An Alan Wake movie would be awesome.

I don't get why Sony uses both - gaming and movie division. Make a blockbuster Uncharted movie, bundle it with PS3 and game would be a nice start. Create deep franchises in a big universe and make it a trilogy, which people love and will go NUTS for the next one (lord of the rings, matrix, Star Wars, Avatar) and make the games for it as well. Both have to be big budget AAA-productions.

And you could reduce marketing costs if you can advertise both, new movie and a new game.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Just like any game, a it would make a mediocre movie at best. It'd probably be the highest grossing VG movie ever, but also the most expensive VG movie ever. To make a decent profit on it the studio who finances the movie will need a cut of the merchandise and DVD sales.

O'connor is a bit ignorant here. There are plenty of movies that don't bomb at the box office, but are totally reliant on the DVD, lisencing and and mechandising to make a profit. Prince of Persia did very well at the box office (world-wide gross of $335 million) but fell about 20 million short of turning a profit at the box office. So merchandising and DVD/BD sales are going to be essential for the movie to make a profit. I'd say it will make a profit in the end, but only just.

The problem with the bean counters and lawyers was that they looked at the numbers and they came up short at projected box office takings, meaning the studios couldn't take up the movie unless MS was willing to cut them a decent deal on the merchandising. MS was probably wanting all the mechandising for themselves. After all there's no sense for MS in making any movie unless MS profits decently from it (and rightly so).

Because everyone wants to profit and no one wants to lose, getting ink on a contract is going to be tricky.
