Forums - Website Topics - Vgchartz does a shitty job at PR

VGC has Mass Effect at .7 million. Even if they are referencing consumer sales data, and it was undertracked, it wasn't undertracked by that much. Especially considering the tendency of the people who sold the game to round up. Also, as we can see with Media Create and Famitsu sales comparisons (both have ~60% retail sources but rarely agree), even the best tracking data has at least a 10% margin of error.

There is nothing to defend really. These numbers compare to VGC's just fine.

"But you guys need to do something when Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo releases official numbers that are misleading. "

I could not disagree with you more on this particular point Gebx. As far as I know this site and its statistics are all been done by passionate I might add members of this community. Those who does free services for the community often recieve great respect among my people. Yes, there are times they are wrong, but it will be asked politely as a subject to look into, not demanded.

Before anyone think I have hidden agenda I feel I should say I do not frequent this site nor will I seek future association with this site (apart from browsing and chating from time to time), I just felt I should voice my opinion about things that are taken granted and should be respected.

On behalf of VGChartz I would like to apologize to all the people posting on other websites that bash VGChartz. Microsoft has recently reported that they sold one million copies of Mass Effect to retailers. While we did not report this because Microsoft did not inform us beforehand it is still a very sad oversight on our part. Also, we would like to apologize for reporting numbers sold to consumers, not numbers sold to retailers. Although we will not be changing the way we report the numbers we would like to apologize to all those who don't understand.

Jeff bell said halo 3 was 'over' 5 million and then said mass effect had sold 1 million, vgcharts has one under and one over, so to say he lied and used one type of figure might be jumping the gun a tad.

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

I am actually quite impressed with how well VGcharts tracks Videogame, especially hardware- They don't have nearly the resources that NDP has but they do on a week by week basis which to me is quite impressive.

Even if it were to be 'jumping the gun a tad', and Microsoft was actually talking about 1 million Mass Effect copies sold, that would be an estimate anyway. The only solid numbers they have, are the shipped copies. So then the arguement would be, which estimate is better? And to be honest, I think ioi has more experience in the tracking sold to customer numbers. He's been doing it longer.

Apology barely accepted.

On a realted note, Mass Effect most definitely has sold more than 1 Million units*.

See what I did here?
