So my question is? What if every year consoles got upgraded every year, new formats possible , new graphics chips, new controllers. Is that what you'd want? Or do you like the five year life cycle?
I was just chatting in another thread about why I love consoles compared to PC's or other devices. A major reason I cited was that consoles only upgrade every five years. Now I'm not talking new slimmer models with better lighting and storage capacity. I'm talking new hardware that you need to experiance the latest games.
A reason I stopped PC gaming was I had to spend like 200-400$ every year or two upgrading my PC so it could play the latest AOE and StarWars game. I upgraded constantly and have gone through like 5 PC's in 15 years when I was a PC gamer. Finally since I already owned Nintendo systems I decided to forget PC and game on consoles instead.
But someone pointed out in other industries like the I-Pad and cell phone market companies need to release entirely new devices every year. Others talk about how you need to create new graphics engines constantly to keep up with the times and play new games.
What if you needed the latest Wii to play the new Wii games? Or the latest PS3 revision to play a PS3 game or the newest X-Box 1080 running Live version 4.0. Would you actually like that?
