Forums - Gaming - Have you reached your game buying limit for a system this generation?

I have 9 PSN games this year and 10 ps3 games this year.

I just got it in the beginning of the year

Not really, I have purchased around 50 PS3 games so far this gen( and rented a dozen) and what really limits me is the time I have to play those games and the fact that I want to limit the number of games still unwrapped in my backlog( it's sitting at two right now).

I have actually refrained from purchasing games I wanted to purchase because I didn't think I would have time to actually play those any time soon but right now since about 12 months I am at a point where more games come out that interest me than I have time to play, the main reason being that I have been spending a lot of time on specifics games at the expense of others games ( played 10 full seasons of franchise mode in madden10 with 10 min quarters, played 2 full season of my players in NBA2K11 with 10 min quarters ( 164 games   playoff, none simulated...) and that recently a lot of the games I purchased have been long games...

Just in 2011 I am planning to buy the following :

- Mass Effect 2 & 3

- Two worlds 2

- Dragon Age 2

- KZ3

- RFoM 3

- The witchers 2

- Elder Scroll 5

- DeadSpace 2

- Uncharted 3

I do not necessary buy every iteration of a franchise though.

I did not buy CoD:Black Ops this year.( I did buy MW2 and rented Waw but never played MW1).

And I am not playing to purchase either Madden12 or NBA2K12 ( NBA2K11 has all I need in a basketball game, and Madden11 didn't feel that great after Madden10).

The main issue is really that as a generation gets older more long games start to come out that take longer to complete ( more RPGs or game like GT5 that will take ages to finish..)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Not really, but I did promise myself next gen I'm not going to spend as much on games.

- 1 console maximum next gen (but maybe I'll buy a 2nd one when it drops under $200)

- Maybe 5 games per year maximum, on average (all new, I don't buy used)

I'm also getting to the point where me playing games in general will decrease.

For instance from Sept. 2010 to the end of next year, I plan on buying a grand total of 4 games with my most anticipated game being Batman:AC.  Considering that I originally wanted at least 15 games in that same time period is a huge drop off.   And two of those four games come out this year (Civ5 - already bought and GT5 - haven't bought/might buy)

So yeah, I see where your coming from.  Hey, at least you'll have more money to spend on other things rather then video games.

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

My god I forgot about The Witcher 2.......my poor wallet!!!!

I recently found the last three intellivision games I needed, finishing the entire library so I can't buy anymore games for it.

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man, I always hit the limit. Every month. My wallet is the limit, though.

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.
