Stories which are simply told, I.E. pretty much anything cinematic aside from WRPGs where you have choices.

Games where story gets in the way of gameplay, I.E. the gameplay is tailored to the story and not vice versa

Games where gameplay is sacraficed for graphics, I.E. no split screen, unresponsive.

Games where the final boss is too hard, I never finished Metroid Prime for instance because of it.

Metroid Prime 1? 2's final boss (especially in the non-toned-down original GameCube version, not the more fair one in Trilogy) i would class as too hard, but 1's is fairly simple once you know the attacks

Go back and beat the best game of all time. Do it now.

Though i agree with you on that point overall. Overhard final bosses/dungeons put me off of Izuna 2, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2, and Final Fantasy III

It was Metroid Prime 3 corruption which I had by itself and afterwards I got the trilogy. I got the names mixed up.

Well I have Metroid Prime trilogy but I never played it because I figured the end bosses are too hard. This is funny because I was saying to myself throughout the game whenever I met a boss how fair it felt to fight no matter the outcome until the very last one and I tried and I tried but I couldn't see the way through.

Really? I beat Metroid Prime 1 and i think the fight with the Omega Pirate & MetaRidley, though tougher than most bosss fights in the game, were almost as tough as the last one so I think those 2 fights actually prepared you for it. Metroid fusion had waaaaaaaaaay more tough bosses. Most were so tough that the final boss was a walk over. Anyway, from what I heard, MGS portable ops has a ridiculously unfair final boss.

BTW, if you beat Mario Galaxy 1, do you agree with me that the final fight with Bowser shoulda been a lil tougher?

I haven't beat Mario Galaxy, I don't have the attention span for such a long game. Im not really a platformer fan to be honest and never have been even during the platformer craze on the Mastersystem/Megadrive.

Maybe I should play MP1 / 2. I always wanted to try it with a mouse and keyboard and since I own the game theres no shame in downloading an ISO for Dolphin.

Tease.

Then beat the game as a team. Play a couple of levels, let a friend play a couple, get your brother to play a couple, blah blah

screen tearing/ lack of check points/ too short

Hrm... I'm going to say the lack of challenge. And it's not a case of just my getting better, either. Today's games, while some are still fun, are just too easy. But I think this may be a by-product of the other problem I have- a lack of focus on gameplay. It's become more about the developer wanting you to see the story, cutscenes and all. I'm playing a game to game, not to watch a movie. And because you want me to see that next cutscene, you'll take my hand for half the game and help get me there. It's sapping the fun out of gaming for me. Sure, I appreciate a good story, but I don't want it getting in the way of gameplay. It's making games too easy, too!

1. Unskippable cutscenes/events - the biggest offender is Persona 4. I wish I can skip the first three hours of it. Then there are other events in the game that last about half an hour (with one of those being placed right after a tedious boss fight).

2. Dialogue choices/trees that mean nothing. Again, the biggest offender being the Persona series, well 3 & 4 at least. Somebody asks you a questions, and the dialogue you get to choose is basically the same. Also, your choice only affects the dialogue for like ten seconds, and everyone resumes to ignore you. It's a waste of time. The social links suffer the same thing. It's just once in a while where your input actually matters.

3. Unexpected QTEs - basically a QTE you didn't expect to see. I got pissed at Mirror's Edge QTE. So I was like two hours into the game, which is almost half the game, and not once was there a QTE. But suddenly, a QTE appeared, and I died. What the hell? Fist of the North Star was another one. Of course, I got pissed because I wanted the demo to be over. This is one of the worst demos I've played this gen.

4. Random encounters - for some reason, the encounter rate is ridiculously high when I'm in a hurry. They happen when I don't want them to.

5. Dying when your MP drops to zero. No, not your HP, but your MP. Who the fuck came up with this? Star Ocean 3 has a lot of annoying things. Worst series ever.

6. Ridiculous difficulty spike. Your blazing through one dungeon at ease, then the next one has enemies that can kill you with three hits. Rogue Galaxy had a terrible spike with the spiders.

7. Instant death spell. This does not make the game hard; it just makes it cheap.

8. Save points being few and far in between. I love Valkyrie Profile 2, but seriously, the save points are like an hour apart from each other. Hell, I think this applies to every Tri-Ace game.

9. Lymle from Star Ocean 4

No need to be a hater, kay!

themanwithnoname's law: As an America's sales or NPD thread grows longer, the probabilty of the comment "America = World" [sarcasticly] being made approaches 1.

Boring games.

The game can have as many flaws as it wants, as long as it doesn't take away from the fun.

What those flaws are exactly depend on game to game.

Except lag. Lag ALWAYS ruins a game for me.

I hate glitched and incomplete games that need patching post-release (hm-hmm - Fallout).

underwater levels;..

They are annoying if you need to find places to breath (Sonic, Tomb Raider etc)

but also so scary..I remember the first time I played Half Life and saw the fishes;..Woohaa X_X.

But most annoying things in a game ever for me:

And it makes it most annoying considering they made it on purpose!

Ugh agreed...Halo Reach should have been rated a 5 points about all the other Halo's just because they didn't include this abomination.

Water levels.

I also hate any time constricting games, which is (coming to think about it) why I hate racing sims so much.

Very much agreed. Water levels could be fun but we still haven't perfected the controls. We're getting better than the absymal early tomb raiders, where I drowned so often

And yeah, games with a time limit stress me out, and being I play games to relax it's not good.
