Forums - Sales - X360 nearly overtakes Wii HW/SW for year 2010 in Americas

If you had asked me 2 weeks ago if I thought 360 would win in Americas this year I wouldn't have given it a second thought, no. But now I'm really not sure. Most likely Wii will win but it's not nearly as sure a thing now. I thought the red Wii would have a more dramatic impact combined with Wii's already large holiday boosts. I think it's going to come down to Black Friday week. If 360 takes the lead after that week I think it could win the year for HW. Software is a different matter, I don't think it has a shot at it with DK and Epic Mickey coming out. The odds are still stacked against the 360 though, I'd still only give it a 90/10 chance.

Proudest Platinums:

2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

More impressive for the 360 when you consider the massive bundling Wii has.

Oh, the irony, lol!

...I might've missed some on the 360 side too...

Really? You're so smart. Not knowing that every Wii is bundled and not every 360 is bundled. Number of different games is not the same of number of games.

How many times do we need to really go over this, its like your saying if the wii wasn't bundled with a game someone would have went to the store and bought it without a game. If wiisports wasn't bundled it would only benefit another game because they would have just bought wiisports seperately or bought another game, which means the software sales would still be where they are. I love the excuses for a console that relies on "hardcore gamers" it sure can't sell a game, considering the fact that a console that relies on "soccer moms and kids' sells as much software only shows how bad the 360 sells games, i guess thats why it shares most of its library with the ps3.

Some people would buy wii without a game, the people who mod it.

Wii is bundled with 2 games now. Let's assume that a person who is not interested in those games buys a wii, he has to get those games and the game(s) what made him buy the wii. That inflates the SW sales a lot. On 360 there is no forced bundles, you can get 360 without any games or with the game you actually want.

What sells the wii in the first place are wii games, why do you think third party games sell so much less, nintendo bundles those games because they have alot more appeal than something like call of duty or halo. Why exactly should i not count those games, because microsoft doesn't do it. Why does microsoft not bundle halo 3 constantly? Is it because they would miss out on all the other game bundles or maybe halo probably wouldn't help much more than it already has because it has limited appeal. Just because other companies don't do what nintendo does, doesn't mean they shouldn't count. Should i remove the 360's headstart from its LTD sales. Would the 360 be doing what its doing now without the revision. The wii hasn't had a revision so is the 360 cheating. Should i remove all those countries the PS2 is sold in because the Wii hasn't been released there. Should the PS3 be considered cheating in others because it has more countries to sell to. My point is all the consoles have some what of an advantage over the others and nothing is stopping the competitors from doing the same.

"What sells the wii in the first place are wii games"

NO KIDDING, OMG!!!!!!THAT's SUCH A GREAT DISCOVERY WHY WON'T YOU MAKE A PATENT OF IT?

AND I WAS THINKING IT WERE THE 360 GAMES WHO SOLD THE WII

i was obviously talking about the wii series games like wiisports, wiifit, and wiisports resort

Yeah, a month and half. The holiday season. Not a big deal.

So you would say. I would say that at least half of wii buyers have no interest in wii sports. I think that there is a lot of forcing.

To this point, it hasn't been.  Again, we're talking about up until now with these figures.

And you really think at lest half of Wii owners have absolutely zero interest in Wii Sports?  Haven't even tried it?  I think the only "forcing" here is your argument. ;)

DD games in retail cases are still counted by trackers.   Look at GTA Episodes from Liberty City, or the various PSN cards that came out around PSP Go (GT, LBP, etc).  Though I'm not sure how VGC tracks these things?

VGChartz doesn't count DD.

Anyhow, my point is the 360 hasn't been bundled with nearly as many units of software as the Wii.

Just pointing out how impressive the 360 software sales figures are. Not trying to bash the Wii.

VGC charts Episodes from Liberty City.  Is that pressed on disc or a DD code in a box?  Either way, boxed retail is boxed retail, I'd be surprised if VGC was any different from NPD, Famitsu, etc, on this.

Wii hasn't been bundled in nearly as many ways as 360.  Not half as many, not a third as many, not even a sixth as many ways actually.  And that's just games, if we go into every SKU configuration this gen, Wii hasn't had even a tenth as many as 360.  That was my point.

So you know that legacy wii has been always available at any given retailer? Sure thing.

Trying a game is not the same as wanting it. You don't know it, I don't know it. Maybe is half the people who bought wii this year, maybe not.

Who said "wanting"?  I said "interest".  Actually you said "interest" too.  Let me know when you've finally decided where those goalposts should go?

Sure, mate. Interest as in wanting to buy the game. If you get a game which you don't want in a bundle, you will propably try it anyway.

People buy bundles with games they'd never have considered buying otherwise.  Again; Sega Superstars Tennis 360.

This is getting boring. Sonic tennis was not bundled with every 360 out there, but wii sports is. You can't buy a wii without it but you sure as hell can buy a 360 without sonic tennis. Is that so hard for you to see?
