I don't remembering seeing any marketing for Infamous whatsoever, but the kind folks on VGChartz steered me in the right direction. Based on the very little anecdotal evidence of mine, I'd say that it had some fantastic word of mouth advertising.

The Internet hype for inFamous was pretty big as I remembered, but not much happened outside these forums (The mag I subscribed called inFamous a game "came out of no where"), I remember seeing a commerical in the cinema once, and that was all I could think of.

I saw several commercials before and when it was released, I think the first time I saw the commercial was during Monday Night RAW, which is one the most watched shows in America and the world.(it was either RAW or during adult swim)
here's the commercial
It was the first of Sony's title to get previews aired in movie theaters. I think Killzone 2 would've been more deserving and more responsive to such marketing, but whatever. Aside from that, i don't really remember much that they did for marketing.
As for the Uncharted 2 beta, Infamous was kinda a slow burner. It had a pretty soft start, and most of its sales came well after the U2 beta was over and done with.
it was advertised on adult swim for at least 2 weeks. Remember seeing ads every night when watching robot chicken.
I dont rember much in Australia but there are not alot of tv comercials and the like but inFamous was bundled with counsels here, thats how i got my copy.
