Forums - Sales - Wii Sells 232,000 in October, Places Third Again

I don't really get how this is news. Both HD systems have BRAND NEW technology that just released, where the Wii hasn't had a really substantial release anytime soon. I'm more impressed that the Wii isn't FURTHER behind.

At this rate, the Wii will be surpassed in 2020. =P

I wouldn't call a rebranded Xbox 360 BRAND NEW technology. It's a simple remodel.

I'm still surprised how people here seems to think it's anormal. Wii has had 2 years of record sales and a 2009 killer Christmas, actually it is following the same trend as the PS2 but 7 million higher. The only difference is that the other consoles too are successful unlike Gamecube and Xbox in which nobody was really interested.

The winning console has never started coming in last place in NPD consistently, thus it's abnormal.

Didn't take long (less than 1 page) for this thread to become derailed and fall into my consolve vs. your consolve shennanigans.  Let's disucss the numbers though?

While the Wii has done very well and it is more likely to have hit a saturation point than the other two systems (since it's sold more), I don't remember the last time, (if every) that the winning console of a generation was in last place for any long amount of time (more than 1 or 2 weeks).  While the HW numbers might be explained with a "already saturated" argument, SW should not.  I think Wii SW is pretty disappointing given the user base.

Oh noez, Wii iz d0med, once again.

-_-*

Segmentation in the industry will do that.  It's a good thing that gaming has expanded enough that there are more choices for the consumer.  You can't really go wrong with any of the three consoles this gen.  This great for the gamers, bad for the fanboys.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

"what about the eyetoy it was released more than 7 years ago"

You're absolutely right, I forgot about the Eyetoy. The Kinect IS to Eyetoy as Move is to Wiimote.

That actually changes nothing though, the webcam was around before the Eyetoy, so Sony still didn't have an original idea there. And it seems to prove that only Nintendo can be innovative. :P

Software sales for Nintendo didn't fare much better, either, as the Wii software sales were down 26% to $32 million and DS software sales were down 32% to $23 million. Xbox 360 software sales, on the other hand, were up 44% to $81 million, and PS3 software sales were up $27 million (17%).

The underlined part is what really impressed me. XBox 360 is a beast in software sales selling 3 times as much as PS3. That's incredible!

Signature goes here!

I hate to be an instigator, but can people not be so desperate to defend Nintendo or any other company? It makes for poor arguments, and it sounds really pathetic.
