Forums - Website Topics - Reporting comments on news items + report feedback

Heya.

It seems we should have the ability to report other users for blatant trolling and personal insults in the comments section of news posts, as we do for forum posts. The news section would be higher profile for VGChartz in terms of new users seeing it, and tbh is full of posts that, if made in the forums, would swiftly lead to bans.

I know the mods can't be everywhere, which is why the reporting system works so well.

P.S. - mods, go to the 'No Wii needed in 2011' news post and swing the banhammer please :)

Second point - would it be possible for the mods who respond to the reporting to give some feedback, just one of 2 canned responses

- Thank you for your assistance and the issue is/has been/being dealt with

- Thank you for your time, but the person in question was acting within the bounds of VGChartz rules and no action is to be taken.

I just want to be able to find out if I should actually have reported those people I do, and thus whether I should report people for similar actions in the future.

If you need to report someone for a comment in the news you can just report a post of him and link to the comment plus what he said. Or even report any post of anyone and state clearly where's the offense, after all, we'd just need a link

I like the idea of a response from your report.

'sa good point - you are so getting reported zexen :P

Well, you could be the first one to ever report a post of mine...at least since I've been mod and since I've been checking the mod queue

I definitely like the idea of getting a report feedback so that we actually get notified if action has taken place or the fact that maybe tell us why it's not something worth taking action. I've had this happened twice before when there was clearly flaming going on in on topic, reported and nothing happened.

So a feedback would be nice.

First!

Congrats. Since you got what you wanted, I guess it was worth it...

As for the second think, I don't think it'd work simply because it's a hassle, sending PMs here ain't exactly smooth so it'd take ages if we have to answer every single report we get. Specially when a lot of people report the same post, which happens a lot. In the end, if we ban it you can see it, if you don't see anything, the reported one either got a warning or was deemed not worthy of action. If you're really that worried about if an action was taken or not you can simply ask any mod out there and he can check the mod history.

As for whether or not you should report people, you shouldn't be asking yourself that. You ALWAYS have to report people, if the report is increidibly stupid we'll just delete it and move on, it's not like we'll hold a grudge with you for wasting our time and then plot secretly to ban you for a very minor thing. People shouldn't expect for every report to result in a ban, but it's not like they only should report posts that are obvious bans....those are the ones that flood the mod queue, after all, not the "in the end, it wasn't bannable" reports, so the latter don't really annoy us

Fair enough then, I spose that answers all my questions :)

P.S. - the mods totally are all conspiring against me.

Feel free to lock this thread, it's run its course

Nah, I'll leave it open, if we get someone else besides you that reads this and leads him to reporting in the news and that that can lead to a better moderation down there, it'll be worth it
